G'day all,
I was at my local toyota dealer today getting them to have a look at my corolla gearbox which has s**t itself 6 months out of warranty (another story) and the guy said they have been having alot of new hilux's in with gearbox problems too, something about a problem with the way they have been made overseas.
I thought it interesting as its hard sometimes to get an admission from a dealer that there is a common problem with one of their cars..
anyway just thought u might have been interested
regards
Steve
p.s. i forgot to ask if they were 2wd for 4x4 hilux's

G'day Steve,
I mentioned this too in a post a while back. I was looking at buying a new SR5, Rodeo LT or Navara ST-R. Got steered
well away from the Hilux by my cousing who is a mechanic.
Apparently, it is the newer ones that are more of a problem. Apparently they are cheap bearings and they have been having quite a few problems. Diff's too are apparently a problem.
Anyway, good luck with the replies now that you've put a stick in the bee hive.
Smocky.

I have a late 2002 SR5 Hilux. It has been pounded over rocks, through mud holes and up hills. I though it would have been dead by now, with the canning it gets.
Still works perfectly though. Only mods, raised
suspension and new shocks, original torsion bars. No complaints from this Hilux owner.
I would recommend a Hilux to anyone that is in the market for a 4x4 ute.
Cheers
Andrew
