I think the topic asks the whole question. Does the 80 series (1996 petrol 4.5lt auto) have a timing belt or chain? Planning a trip to the
Flinders Ranges in April next year and if it is a belt will probably get it changed before I go. It's done 175,000 km. Thanks!

According to the Invoice I received when I had
mine done, it is a belt. At 175,000 it may be a good idea to have it done before you go. My Cruiser has a warning light at 100,000km indicating it needs to be changed.

Hi Eric:
Yep, diesel. I took a look in my worksho manual to see if I could give Marko more info, but it said nothing. Mad Dog seems to have cleared it up, too. I guess there is a reason for the different belts for different engine types.

you got it mad dog ,
Guys its easy to tell , If your engine has a black plastic timing cover , its a belt , if its under the rocker cover (like 80- series petrol) then its a chain ,
belts dont like oil lol .

The chain will need chain....ging when the motor wears out at 400,000kms or so.
