G'day All, I have a 09/03 3.0TD Nissan Patrol wagon with following problem - (Vehicle been to local Nissan dealer and at present they are unable to isolate cause).
Wandering if anyone else out there has experienced the problem/can offer any thoughts/solutions.
Problem: Rough idle after vechile has travelled 1.5 hrs or longer on open country road. After travelling this distance, when the vehicle is reduced to idle it then runs rough. It appears that it idles well below the normal idle revs. This continues whilst driving around the city and again upon driving back home. The next day when used over limited distance(5 - 10 minutes) there is no problem with the idle.
Your help would be appreciated very much.

Need more info like what air filter do you run? If a finer filter be careful.
My suggestion is to drive it to a Toyota dealer and buy a new TD Prado.
Only my opinion though.

I would drive the 1.5 hrs + then whenit idles rough, turn it off, disconnect battery [ies] put foot on brake, run through gears if auto, then after 1 minute reconnect battery [ies] and try idling again, this may help seperate engine issue, from ECU issue.

Hi Russ, mine does this too sometimes while driving around town then waiting for traffic lights to change..l just give it a rev and it seems to come good..l noticed it never does it if the aircon is not on...so it might be something to do with the idle setting

What is the issue with the ECU, had the vehicle checked at the Nissan Dealer again today and they reckon it could be to do with a sensor or the fuel pump at idle. What do you reckon as I raised the issue of the Exhaust gas return and they claim this is o.k

Gooday, this may be useless advice since I own a Jackaroo and the fuel injection system is likely to be different. However, I had an oil pressure sensor buggerup on my jackaroo. Driving around town was ok but when i drove at 110 for a long period the jack would idle wierd when i came to rest. This however would only go on for a 5 minutes. Therefore it could be a sensor (but which one??) relating to the fuel injection system and thus causing the ECU to go loopie. For those who don't know, the jackaroos fuel injection system is controlled by oil pressure and the ECU, as for the GU patrol i am not sure exactly how the injection system is controlled.Maybe by the MAP sensor (manifold absolute pressure) and the ECU??? Hope all goes well anyway.
