Hi all,
What are conditions likely to be in
Corner Country around the July school holidays? Is it a comfortable time of year to visit up there?

Good best time of the year for this part of the country mate, we went in July perfect during the day bit cold at night. If you go this year come to the gathering at
Birdsville 9/10/07/05, it will be a blast !!

Only reason I ask is that there is one at Camerons corner on the same date. Temporary numbers of 47 cars so far. It will be very busy up that way.

Why keep it a secret? There are about 50 vehicles heading to CC on that same weekend. The Overlander
Forum members are having a big gathering and also raising money for the RFDS. There will be a "cheque presentation" ceremony thingy happening (on the Saturday, I think). So far, it looks like the majority will be
camping at CC on the weekend but there will probably be "spill over" at
places like
Birdsville and Innaminka on the nights preceeding and following the Saturday night.
Many of the vehicles, some in groups, will be travelling on other trips both before and after that weekend.
Birdsville, Innaminka, BH, and desert crossings are all on the itineraries.

Hi Savvas
Just in case you are unaware
The Australian winter is from June to the end of August
The
Corner Country is more or less in Central Australia
The nights can go below freezing in Central Australia during winter and the days can be in the mid 20's
The wind may blow or it could be still
It may rain but is unlikely to
The flies can be bad(big mobs) or they can be ordinary(mobs)
How comfortable do you want to be?

Been through there several times. Middle of the year as you indicate would be the pic of the times. Having said that though, anything can happen, as it does in the outback - cold to hot/wet to dry/flies to no flies - it all depends.... its a lottery, but july has better odds than April and September.

I think the presentation is a lot better on Wombies site than the BOM. They have most of the towns around Oz on there too

Yeah sure Ray...Go for the FOREIGN stuff.....Had a look at the Australian towns list. Like Rawlinna is the "IN" place to be............... yes capital cities are there but some of the others are obscure. Even if locallly produced websites are regarded as inferior by some I would still prefer them. Too much foreign stuff around and American liferstyles taking over our lives......then again I have bloody American made
tyres on my truck...such is life lol
