Bruce, you'll notice these intercoolers are actually water to air units where a dedicated intercooler water system is used to cool the intake charge. They have to have an extra radiator placed in front of the original radiator and air conditioning condensor, usually this extra radiator is much smaller than the original one.
Looking at them I think you'll find that they are actually PWR barrel water to air units rebadged as denco's own.
I've recently done some turbo plumbing on a ski race boat running a turbo triple rotor 20B rotary which uses a large PWR barrel type water to air intercooler which drags up water from the lake/river and has inlet temps lower than ambient air temperature.
This boat by the way recently did 116 mph (not kph) at the patterson lakes watersports centre so it should be well and truly competitive in ski racing.
Regards Andrew.

We have introduced these intercooler kits to compliment our existing kits and still have many in the medium to short term pipeline, such as: Toyota Landcruiser 75, 78, 79 and 80 series and for the TD42 factory. We do supply a universal kit for further details please contact us on (02) 69254 348.

Truckster,

In answer to your question regarding the size of the intercooler barrels. In this case bigger is not necessarily better. All in all they do work as they cool the air 30-50°. The internal baffles are designed to expose the air to as much cooling liquid as possible as it passes through. The barrel coolers are made in various sizes and are made relevent to the air flow on your vehicle.

P.S. Would love to test your GQ if you can increase the underbonnet by about 6 inches ;-p

Paul,

Plenty of room under a Isuzu MU (Rodeo TF body) running a 3.1 TD (Jackaroo) engine if you would like to supply and test results!!

This would suit any Rodeo (Pre RA) and there are plenty out there that would benifit from an intercooler that doesnt need a bonnet scoop!!

Am happy to beg!!! lol

Matt.

Hey Paul... anything is possible.. :D
If you have an IC that will fit for trialling and testing, remember it wasnt that long a drive up to Wagga from here...

The one problem I have with the smaller 4" (102mm) barrels is the number of cooling tubes which they can fit into the barrel. The round shape is really quite inefficient in the way tubes can be fitted into the barrel.
Personally I prefer "Adrad's" new water to air tubing designs developed in association with ARE. (are.com.au).
They are also using a similar design in engine oil and transmission coolers they produce. In my opinion, Adrad's intercooler cores are the best you can buy but PWR's custom radiator cores particularly with internal dimple tubes are the best radiator cores you can buy.

Waddyamean Paul????

Hey Im not fussy gimme the smallest you got (although it is a 3.1L motor) and I will be happy to make it fit and MORE than happy to allow dyno testing before and after!!

It would be a good 'universal fitment' test!!!

You know, its a chore but someone has to do it, I dont mind putting myself out for the rest to learn from myhard work!! lol !!

Anyway thanks for the reply Paul!

Matt.
