Hi Group,
I would be interested to hear from any Westinghouse Satellite phone users.
Their experiences, how they connect how much etc.
I have just recently purchased one from ebay, so will be a new user once I get it connected and installed.
Well I will be a new user if I can get it to work, because when I switch it on the LCD is blank!
The seller is sending me another handset.
One of the reasons that I went for the Westinghouse is that you can connect and disconnect the service at will.
However me and the other half may be going to live in a remote area next year so maybe a new phone will be the way to go especially if we are elidgable for a subsidy

Don't know the brand but when I bought my sat phone Telstra advised me that you couldn't get a subsidy after a phone purchase. Their credibility was that I got my phone because someone was waiting for their subsidy application to be approved. Hope this has changed over the last 2 years.
Kind regards

It's a Westinghouse 1000, quite old.
Has two largish boxes, handset and a antennae.
You can connect to Optus.
Thing is if my other hhalf gets this job in the outback as a nurse, we may be able to buy a new one and get a subsidy, so I can always sell it again on Ebay.
I am intersted in how much people pay per month, whether you can cancel the service when not in the outback.
Can you use the Sim in a normal mobile?

I also have that mod. $45 +gst/m. access to optus (includes $12 calls) Peak time $3.20/min. offpeak (10pm. fri.-10pmsun.) 80c./min. Service can be suspended/reconnected no hassles. We use ours mainly for email (laptop plugs directly in) or incoming calls (no cost to us!) Does draw 10amps. on data transmit. Had ours about 7yrs. No problems at all, high recommend. Have noticed the hand helds can have a tendancy to drop out as the low level satellites (only 180km.up) interchange. Optus uses geostat 35k,km. up satellite! Probly hence the high powered transmitter.
