Petza, from past expierences with my patrol....the air con cuts out when engine reaches a certain temp, thus causing your air con to run hot air. Cause can be a few things...
engine running too hot
activation switch faulty (cut out of fan on air con)
relay faulty
Personally id be making sure the temp gauge for your engine temp is working as it should be. Dash gauge might be showing half when in fact engine may be running at 3/4. So many things can be causing your problem. It helps if you know the history of the car, they always seem excellent when we buy them, but anyone can make them look good if you pay them enough. I hope its just a minor problem for ya though.

Angelo, I had simmilar experiences.
I had the same problem on 3 different cars.
The air con working perfectly and then suddenly starting to blow hot air. Usually after a few minutes it would come good again.
I was always towing a heavy trailer and problems would start when the temperatures came up to about 36 - 38C, but the cars temperature gauge always showed normal.
On a Patrol, the mechanic in Alice after checking a few things removed the relay and bridged out the connection. He advised me to keep my eyes on the temperature gauge and if it was getting hoter than normal to stop and let things cool down for a while.
It worked and the gauge never came up higher than normal.

On a LC 100, again towing a heavy trailer, the same problem. Mechanic in Darwin told me that this was common with those vehicles, especially if the A/C has been serviced in the eastern or southern states. There was apparently a tendency to gas up the units to the higher end of the tolerance. He evacuated the gas and recharged the unit to just above the lower tolerance. No more problems.
Another time, again in a LC 100, the same problem. Mechanic in Coober Pedy said and did exactly the same as the mechanic in Darwin. Again, no more problems.
Apparently on the LC100 things work differently than on the Patrol and you can't just bridge out a relay.

Cheers,
Mike

The surf has cut out when the temp guage has risen, in fact it's what alerted me to my higher than normal running temp of the motor, felt warm air, looked and the guage and took my foot of the throtle - ARRGH!

An easy way to see if the air con is actually running is to just hop out the car (pull over first!! LOL) and see if the clutch is engaged or disengaged on the air con compressor.

Petza.

Could be a number of things.
Question, is the air flow the same (quantity) when cool & then warm? If you turn it off for a while does it come good again?

Hi,

Another possibility:

Sometimes the evaporator can ice up and block the airflow. This has happened to me occasionally when using the aircon continuously in humid conditions. Probably caused by thr thermostat set too low. If you turn off the air you will notice the airflow increasing after a short while as the ice melts away.
