Hi and Merry Xmas to all. A mate of
mine has a 2001 3ltr Nissan Patrol or as my yank wife would call it, a Neeeessan. He took into his local dealer saying pulled like a slug, got it back and the Turbo didn't come in until 2,800 and then with a rush. Took it back and they have a improved it a bit but it still has nothing until 2,700. They told him this was standard, I have read all the tests I can on this vehicle and believe it should be spooling at 1,800 and with a boost you can feel at about 2,200. The latest 2005 model says torbo boost is at 2,000. Can anyone let us know when it is surposed to be working. We are going to Kimberleys next year, and I don't want to have to wait for him all the time in my 2.5 Mazda :-)

sell it and buy a 4.2
go and drive some other 3.0's at other yards and that will tell you how it should be

I agree with you Truckster and Sav, but when your local dealer doesn't have any and we are 260k's from any city, this seemed the best idea for some info from people who don't talk in sales pitches.... Actually I told him to buy a Bravo 2.5, (more power)

This is not normal.
In my experience (having been through a similar kind of issue), I would look at two areas.
Firstly the air mass sensor - your Nissan dealer should be able to swap out your one in a few minutes to check if it faulty.
Secondly, check out the vacuum tubes that control the variable pitch turbo - if there is a blockage or an issue with these tubes, the turbo will not spool up.
In my case (2001 series II), there was an issue with the way one tube connected into the vacuum canister that is fitted onto this model (it was eliminated on the series III).
Silly thing was that the dealer replaced the entire turbo unit before this issue was tracked down.

Actually Truckster's second idea is a great one.
Let the dealer take both the demo on the yard out for a spin, and then jump into yours.
See if he thinks its still 'normal'.

My mate hade the same problem, turned out to be the air flow sensor.
