Any one tried or have reports on Eldorado tyres?
By the brochure given to me by the tyre dealer, and by what says, they are made in the USA by the same people as Cooper Discoverer.
Very similar tyre patterns. I am looking at AT style in 235/85/16 on nissan 16x6 rims for my 1996 diesel pajero. (Have car modification plate to make them legal.)
Price is about $40.00 less, and no milage guarantee.

Any comments appreciated

for $40 you would be crying if they failed.. Pay the $40 extra, or even haggle with the dealer, or another dealer..

Call another tire dealer and say can you match the price that the other place gave you, lie thru your teeth on the price the other place gave you and go from there.

I did that with MTR's and saved over $50 a tire.

Thanks for the comment.
So I take it you don't have any experience with Eldorados, or if you do, you were not impressed?
The Eldorado web site in the states says they have had coopers making thier tyres for them for a few years.

To be honest, I don't like lying through my teeth to any one, and hopefully most people return the favour.

With Coopers the local dealer did honour the milage warranty when I only got 55,000k out of a set of ATs instead of the 80,000k warranty at the time.
You pay for the amount used, and based on full retail price, subject to you having the wheel alignments and rotations done at thier pace every 10,000k at $45.00 a time.
Do the maths though and you do wonder if it is worth it.

I was talking to a bloke that had an Eldorado and a Cooper side by side.
There are a lot of differences between the patterns and he said that when you pushed on the Eldorado and then pushed on the Cooper, the Cooper was heaps firmer.
He said that the Cooper seemed much stronger and straighter in the wall than the Eldorado aswell.
By this, if it were me, I'd spend the extra dollars and get the real thing.
Hope this helps.

Thanks.
I was supicious, just because it may be made by the same people, it could (and sounds like it is) made to a different specification.
I have worked for few different manufacturers and brands are often just quality specced to a price.

I think it's like the old baked beans story....
Heinz make Black and Gold baked beans as well as their own brand... but do they taste the same?
Are there as many beans in the can to the same quality?

Thanks Jason

Good talking to some one who has actually used them.

Leading question, were the side walls 'soft' , see the reply above.

I tend do more country/bush driving than the beach and side walls are a concern.

mate the side walls wont be a concern for you we used them for beach and mud plus some high speed gravel work and they were fine. i think you have made a good tyre size / wheel choice and provided you use correct tyre pressures you will have a very good run from them
