What about Desert Flower lovers? Flora of the Simpson Desert

Wolfgang John has been painting the Simpson Desert for almost 30 years now. He's been living in Birdsville for the last 10 years, and there would only be one or two souls that have spent as much time in the Simpson as he!

Enjoy the Simpson Desert through the eyes of one of Australia's leading watercolour artists, and if you're visiting Birdsville, drop in and meet him.

It should be a blast Baz. Has Kerry changed her mind about coming out or did you change it for her? Look forward to meeting you both.

I'm sure there'll be plenty of chat prior to the event, but if there's anything we can do this end, don't hesitate to drop me a line.

Jackie and I will be off to NZ for a couple of weeks mid-end Jan. and other than our annual pilgrimage to Adelaide for the WOMAD music festival we'll be here in Birdsville and contactable. I'll have one eye on the forum anyway.

Regards

Hi Karsten,

Hope to see the shop and sample the coffee (plus a meal) around the end of September next year. We'll be on our way home after 3 months travelling (mainly the Kimberley). We'll have done the Simpson all being well so will be in a better position to appreciate the art associated with it.

Kind regards

Well that sounds like a great trip! It's true enough, though, you need to spend some time in the Simpson to truely appreciate the paintings.

I'm always envious when people come in out of the desert or are just about to head out (always wish we could be out there!). We have to squeeze trips in beginning and end of season and then try and find a good enough reason when the shop's open to nick out.

We've had a few good little jaunts over the last few weeks. We just had our second child end of July so short trips are just about all we can manage at the mo. There's some magic country between the Diamantina and the Bedourie Rd. to the north-east. It's all cross-country but it's worth it. Lots of hilly terrain affording amazing views over the Diamantina and dune country. Up around the Waddis is also very interesting - both East & West of the Bedourie Rd.

Look forward to catching up after Races next year then.
