Hi All,
Hoping to get some opinions on what a fair price would be for the above vehicle.
I have seen the Redbook values online, but I don't think they are very accurate or in touch with the market, and I have found this with several vehicles I have had interest in both buying and selling.
My co-workers brother is soon to list his car in the tradingpost, and I have been offered the chance to buy it before it goes on sale to the masses.
1994 GQII TI
5 Spd Manual
TB42 EFI
180km with full history
Full leather, dual air, diff lock etc all working perfectly, and leather is immaculate
Tow bar & steps, NO bull bar
Never off road
Near new tyres
Garaged from day 1
The car has genuinely never been off road, it has the cleanest, straightest exterior/paint and underbody I have ever seen, not a single dent underneath and no evidence of paint off the diffs, or mud. The paint is as new and has never been painted (can see there is no crap/overspray in paint or sandpaper marks anywhere, and paint is consistent all round car), the rear sliding window sections are 100% rust free and the rubbers around the car are perfect, they have not been repaird or replaced.
The engine and engine bay you could eat off, I have never seen anything like it on a used car. I have driven it and it drives like a new car.
I can have it for $14k, and just wondering if this is fair for such a good clean un-molested example?
Thanks in advance..

If it is as good as you say, then take it.
Is it this one?

Hi Rob,
No that's not the one, but it sure looks interesting, have you seen that car? or know anything about it?
The one I am looking at is chanpagne and maroon in colour and hasn't been listed for sale I am told.
Cheers.

No, haven't seen it. I was just looking around and came across that one. It sounded just like the one you described - '94, 180k, never off road, leather etc.
Good luck with your choice.

I feel its still a tad on the high side given the year , however , not much.
Normally you wouldn't really but a dollar value on history etc , but in this case , and given the condition of the vehicle , its probably worth it.
The only downside is that its a Petrol , and these are very thirsty (worse then my 4.5 petty patrol)

Hi Flappan,
I was thinking it was a bit overpriced given the year too, but petrol doesn't worry me in any way, I have had 80series cruiser 4.5DOHC and know how thirsty that was. I really hate diesels, they smell when driving behind them (esp on my bike), and spew black crap everywhere, and are so slow they will usually run out of rego before you get to where you are going. They have their purpose for remote outback touring, and
water crossings, but if I buy a patrol is lives in the city 85% time, and just does hunting trips several times a year.
Cheers

Bottom line is it is only worth what someone is willing to pay....yes, it is more valuable that something that isnt as clean, but the motor is old school, which severely dents resale....for instance, a new school motor, like the equivalent 80 series with 4.5 would sell for 16-20 in that condition...and it would probably not sell straight away unless it was closer to 16...consider also, what a few extra $$ will get....maybe a gu with 4.8 from an auction ex gov.

If you are happy with the car, and it has the parts you want, then the price should be fine. But lots of GQ Petrols going for around $9-12k mark. Diesels are usually $14k-20k for 4.2 still...
Genuinely never offroad, be weary of the transfer case and the hubs being 'seized' or rooted. they do need to be used to be kept in good condition.
Just because you cant see sand marks, or anhything doesnt mean that it hasnt been repaired PROPERLY in the past, not like the bodge jobs usually done now. Remember, more than 75% of panel beaters now only do Replace panels not repair them... then they are painted off the car. rear window rubbers could have been replaced as the door and other rubbers.. He may have he maynot have.'
again, if your happy with the car - buy it.
