Hello,
I have a GU III with a 5 inch suspension lift and am running 315 / 75 / 16 on the 16 inch nissan rims.
i have a thin line where it looks like the wheel has been scaping on the steering rod.
Has anyone else had any problems like this? should have i fitted a spacer? or is it just minor scrubbing.

Thanks Heaps

Brent

Be careful, as fitting a spacer may worsen your problem, by increasing the diameter of the space used by the turning wheel, maybe consider setting the steering stop just before it rubs.

I have never heard of the steering rod doing this on a Nissan (even on comp trucks where the pitman arm is reverse drilled to have the tie rod end come from underneath). However I have seen the inside lugs of the tyre rubbing on the trailing arms but that was with 12.5" width tyres and possible adjustment of the steering stops.

I would take it to a nice mound of dirt and drive the car up on an angle so you could see if the tyre contacts any part of the body or suspension. Turn the wheel to simulate standard driving conditions but with wheel in full arc of its articulation.

Did you fit extended bumpstops with the suspension lift? This is definately recommended to preserve the life of shocks and prevent the springs from binding.

Regards
David

When you fitted the kit, what extras did you fit with it? What was in the kit - caster bushes, bump stops etc???

gee, 5inch lift and only 35's? Steve ran 36 Swampers with 2-3in lift!

it was a snake kit i replaced everything with stronger components, control arms, sway bar disconnects, upper and lower pan hard rods, bushes, and so on.

mate i have a little scrubbing with 35 and a 5 inch lift. your mate must have a hell of a lot of scrubbing with 36 and 3 inch lift. why do you need bigger than 35 i have never needed the extra clearence ever.

Nope he didnt really have much.. It all depends on the kit, the offset of the rims, and the rest of the kit.

I had a 6in sus/2in body with 33's that still hit.... Now runnin Simex's instead, they dont rub so bad!

Posted pics of Steve Rolys GU on here before.
Heaps of others on here with 4in or less with 35's and no hassles.

YMMV
