Hi all,
I was at Campmart today and saw some 12V (cigarette lighter and aligater clips) lights that use 60 L.E.D.s in 3 rows of 20 instead of the traditional flouro tube selling for about $100. They are rated at 2.4 watts so are very low consumption. They seem reasonably robust and have a quite substancial cable. They go by the brand name 12 V GEAR. I was wondering what people think of this system and if anyone has any experience with the above lights.

Sean,
I was so tempted! Next time I'm there I'll see if someone will power one up for me.

Campmart Keperra had one ofr $74.95 (it was cheaper than the fluro Versalite).
It had a rating of 8000mCD's (not sure if thats 8000 per bulb or for all 60). It wasnt a normal rating like candle hours on spotties / torches etc, so I was sceptical as to how it compared to the 12v fluoro's in realife.
I might go down there late night shopping after dark and compare my ARB fluoro with it. Anything that uses less current and produces more light has to be a bargain.
Cheers,
Glenn.
