Hi,

I've an HJ61 import, and today checked out a second hand Opposite Lock Aux fuel tank with FJ60 stamped on the fuel guage.

I drove across the city to pick up the bargain - $200 compared to $1300+ for new - as I figured all 60 series would be the same. However, the auxilliary FJ60 tank (that fits under the drivers side floor alongside the chassis), is wider than the space in my HJ61. The fittings for the side steps get in the way too.

My question is, are the chassis rails different on various 60 series? Opposite Lock website has different model aux tanks for manual and auto, but I can't imagine auto and manual having different chassis placements. I'm wondering if it's worthwhile me continuing to check out the second hand options when none may be likely to fit my import. I'm not going to pay new price and will have to revert to jerries in the back for the Simpson trip next July if I can't find an aux tank to fit.

If anyone in Perth is looking for a tank fro an FJ60, check the Quokka this week.

Thanks
Tim

My HJ60 has an aux tank which fits under the passenger side between the chasis rail and tailshaft. Have you tried to fit it on the left

Thanks Greenant.

No I didn't try it there. Clearly it wasn't meant to fit on the drivers side, where the guy said it came off his. But he took it off a few years ago, so his memory may have faded, or I misheard him.

If it was mounted where yours is, the fuel filler would then point towards the tailshaft/diff. And the hose would drape across the dif area I'd guess from memory as the filler is on the drivers side. This wouldn't seem very secure. Also the handbrake cable ran through that area.

However if that is how yours is set up, maybe I'm in for another trip across town for another look .... sigh.

Thanks
Tim

You are right, there is different tanks for manual versus auto, because of gearbox length. The chassis rail are the same on both, except for slight changes in mounts and thicker steel on later ones. Pulled apart a lot of 60's never seen a fuel tank on the right, all on the left between the rail and the tailshaft. Have seen water and air tanks between the sills and the rails on both sides though.

Most of the early ones I've seen fitted on the left and the filler was under the bonet at the rear of the left hand guard.
