A pox on whoever decided to start importing these cheap generators. Had a nice quite spot on the coast to ourselves the other week. That is until a group moved in just up from us. Out comes the generator, great I think hope it's one of the quite Honda's, no such luck. Why do people come out to the bush/coast only to run a generator for 10 hours a day????? Mainly I find they are from larger towns or cities. These comments that you can hardly hear them from 20 or so metres is just crap. I know you can dig a pit, or put a sheet of iorn around them or, or, trust me it doesn't work they are noisy and who wants to hear them when you get away. So after a couple of days and well over 15-20 hours of running I politely ask how long the generators going to be used for. I get told as long as they like, it's their right etc, etc, you know the stuff, it's a free world and all that.

What ever happened to the rights of people to enjoy the sounds of the bush/coast without generators, loud music, yelling above the same to be heard. It seems to be happening more and more, people just don't care less about anyone around them. Yes they are only a minority but they are a blo.dy annoying minority.

Go into "stealth" mode during the night and put some sand in the fuel tank. Harsh but fair if people have this attitude towards other campers. It's the only language the ferals know.

You can't stop the ar$ehole fraternity.
They are the same ferals that are now your neighbors in the cities, no consideration to anybody but themselves stereos going all hours, houses and yards that look like $hit, cars all over the place, motor bikes, same bunch.

Now you know where "Road Rage" started.
We can call the next one "Bush Rage"

Yep i hate em, but saying that i have some friends we sometimes camp with who have one of the cheapies running some flood lights , used during dinnertime only (eg 6-8) to light up the area to make it easy for them to cook and their kids to eat. But they always shut it straight down asap.

I've got 2 of the 11watt flouros which do a magnificent job for me, use 1 or 2 as needed, nice and silent :-))))) The only sounds i want to hear at night are the wildlife / stories & laughs..

Bradley I think you'd be doing your friends and anyone camped near them a service if you explained the 12 volt and gas alternatives to running a petrol engine to provide light. Some people just need to be guided in the right direction at times!!

Austravel, it must be frustrating. Pitty they were able to camp so close, it's not always possible but we always look for the secluded place that's away from anyone else so that our camping noises do not annoy anyone and we don't have arrogant self rightous people camping near us to equally annoy us. we don't have a genny but I can see uses for them, obviously a $2000 honda generator is quiet and probally wouldn't annoy anyone, however not everyone has $2000 to spend on such luxuries. Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending the A holes, however I don't think it's fair to scoop anyone who has one of these up into a group and say that they are all selfish. Some people like to sit there in the dark around a small fire and hear nothing but the sound of their own heart beat (even I do somtimes). Others want to play some music, have a drink and a laugh and a good time. Each to their own, it's not what you do in the bush IMO it's how you look after your surroundings when your finished and how much courtesy you give to those around you (if there are any).
Frankley I get sick of hearing what we all SHOULD be doing in the bush, the bush is their for us all to enjoy in our own ways, however you should ensure that you don't impact on other people's bush experience either.

Couldn't agree more it's what I was alluding to. I was brought up to respect others, their rights and beliefs, ie be tolerant. I really don't care what others do when they are camping , as long as they leave the place the way they found it, if they keep it within their confines. So if they want music, generators etc, etc no dramas but I shouldn't be able to hear it. I make damn sure I don't intrude on others when I camp and only want the same in return. Maybe a bit unrealistic in this changing society. Not sure I said all who use them are the same but in reality you can't kick in one of those units and think that it won't bother others in the local area. The noise radiates for some distance especially when windy. But I'm getting smarter, hopefully not more callous but plan a bit more so they can't get anywere near me. Funny though isn't it, finally people are standing up and saying don't light that cancer stick up near me but with other things it's getting worse.

Shaker I don't think there's a place for either loud music or generators in the bush, by the beach or anywhere that the noise will annoy others. Laws prevent them in more densly populated areas. Common courtesy should restrict them in more remote areas.

Im 100% with you on this.

Then you said
" Yes they are only a minority "
I think your very wrong.

Mate went to woods point had the place to themselves, then about dozen cars turned up with one of them TRAILER COOLROOMS!!!! They were all pist 24hours, shooting wildlife and there was music, and people up for 24 hours straight for 3 days.

Now you understand why I hate people.

I was at Huggerts Lane on the Avon River on the Friday night of the cup weekend with a group from the Toyota Club.
At about 11.30 PM another group of cars arrived parked at the other end of the camp ground and unloaded there 50 cc mini bikes and proceeded to ride them around the camp ground at midnight.
Covering us all in dust and disturbing the sleep of everyone else.

We were leaving early in the morning to move on and thought well we will just let it go this time, guess what 6.30 in the morning they were up and riding around again.

What sort of mentality do these people have ?
Another group of trail bike riders in the camp ground were also realbleepas they said these guys give all bike riders a bad name.

John, ...... we were at Huggets that Friday night.
We were in bed in the CT when at around 11.30 these people drove into the area we were in & drove to within 3 metres of our trailer, headlights & driving lights on full beam, supposedly looking for friends.
I would have been surprised if their friends also had a Red Terrano 2 & a Track camper trailer.
We also heard the commotion being made by the bike riders in the other area, then we heard what sounded like a couple of shots ......... then silence!
We lay there thinking ....... "there is a God"

Not really just need the right line of work, my last job was field assistance to mapping geologists and it involved driving to remote areas south east of Norseman and also north west of kalgoorlie. The entire mapsheet needed to be covered and usually involved accesing tracks that hadnt been used for over 10 years or straight go-toos through bush (The final picture on my photogallery was just another day in the office) - we didnt come accros too many feral genny users (actually noone at all). My current job is far more civilised with me having to set up base camps out in the bush with a caravan and a huge trailor mounted jenny (enough to scare away any feral 2 stroke nifty fiftey rider) still I turn it off early enough and retire to my swag coz a caravan doesnt seem quite right (says the soon to be former owner of a campervan)

Motherhen, I am not sure how far east you are talking or how you are going to be coming in, but here goes
Dunns rocks-no facilitys but there is hard compacted beach at the end of the track next to the rocks where people camp good fishing can be had off the rocks and if you scrabble your way far enough round them there is a natural rock jetty which is good to fish off. There is also a nearby track to rossiters beach. Dunns rocks beach heads around quite a distance to a headland which has good fishing platforms.
Thomas River - My favourite has 2 campgrounds one along side the river the other up higher, rubish & dunnies. My choice of camping area here is behind the foredunes and at the base of the massive yokingup bay dunes. This area is accesed by driving along the beach and not far before pt jeddacorradup there is access. (this are is also the best for beach fishing). At the end of the main beach there is a track that leads around a series of headlands/bays where you can also camp on the beach. When you have driven around as far as you can There is an inland track to mt arid (no camping)
Poison Creek - great fishing, was here about 2 mnths ago has plenty of campsites with basic facilitys but again I camped in the dunes. The far end of the main beach had the best fishing holes. Dont miiss driving to the far end of the beach and keep followuing the track as far as you can go - it leads up and over mt pasely with fantastic views.
acces to these places is easy 2wd if coming from esperance unless you go to balladoania and south past mt Ragged (good camping). On my way back from Kalgoorlie I usually spend a night either at peak charles or mt burdett.
sorry this reply is rushed as I have to head out bush to Mt Monger again but if you have any queries or wont more/other info please email me on evansd@newcrest.com.au

You are on a looser from the start with these people. If it wasn't a gen. it would be music or voices at 105dB or foul language or obscene behaviour or _something_!

I suppose it's worth asking them to "keep it down", once. But after that just give up and move on somewhere else.

They won't stop, in fact they'll do it more just to irritate you, you'll getbleepoff and stressed which will ruin your break and if you persist it will end in violence which will end in tears for all - one way or another.

This is one reason I _never_ go away on holiday weekends and _never_ camp within 3 or 4Ks of anyone else and usually go to places you can only get to in a 4WD. Not everyone can do that though.

About a year ago I broke all the above rules (for various reasons to do with friends) and camped on the Murray north of Swan Hill but well into state forest 10k or more from a sealed road. There were 2 or 3 fishing parties camped along the same stretch of river, it transpired, but about 3 or 4Ks either side of us so no problem there. UNTIL the next morning when we heard a boat heading towards us with three fishermen in it, they stopped and tied up on the opposite bank _directly_ across from our campsite. All three turned to face us, put their lines out, got the beer out and sat there watching us. Talk about a goldfish bowl - we had two women with us too.

I gave them about 30 minutes - no change - so I got a couple of empty tins and some string, walked about 50m from my camp (in full view of the fishermen) and suspended the cans from tree branches. Next I went down to the water and called across to them: "Hey guys! Let me know before you move from there because I'm going to sight one of my guns in". "Errrr... OK" they said :)

Next I walked back to camp got a lever action .22 out and positioned myself behind one of the vehicles where they _could not_ see me. The first few rounds were measured and spaced apart by 30 seconds - the next few were pretty fast (lever actions are _fast_). It only took another minute or two before I heard "Hey!
Stop shooting. We're moving on". Never had any more problems with fishermen.

I wasn't threatening anyone.

What did annoy me was having three men pull up 50m (or less) away from a camp in the middle of a state forest with two men and two women happily minding their own business and then proceed to stare directly into it for 30 minutes completely invading our privacy. Would you do that in your 4WD with two of your mates?

The simple act of doing so is intimidatory - not to mention very, very rude.

And let's be real here guys - being in the bush with attractive women can bring attention from the wrong people. Can't be walked over all your life - sometimes you have to stand up to things.
