I receive my 6225 on Thursday. I also need the car kit.

Rob - does the kit you bought augment the signal gain? If so, would you mind if I asked what the ballpark price was for the kit?

Cheers

Chris,
I believe that would depend on the type of arial you purchase as I haven't bought the kit yet, only have the phone. The kit I have been quoted is $300 if you fit your self, but don't know exactly what you get in the kit.I am still looking into it myself.

Thanks Rob :)

Yup - I want a bullbar-mounted aerial that gives me as much mach as it can. The reason I have CDMA is that on our place in Cooma, the other type of networks leave a lot to be desired in terms of signal clarity. CDMA is passable using the phone alone, but a whacking great aerial will hopefully give me what I need.

Cheers

Chris,
For me, I live in the Vic high country and a aerial around 4db gain might be the best option for me due to the terain. If I were on flater open country a 6 db gain might be a better option as I understand. There are a number of threads on this with more detail. What ever you do I think the car kit will definitley give you beter range and at worst somewhere to store the damn thing.

Rob - sounds like we live in areas with similar phone problems. We are right on the Murrumbidgee at 800m, and the hills on our block go to 925m, so we get some humungous black holes in our reception. I can imagine that it would be even worse for you :(

Cheers

Rob,

Don't have Nokia or a Cruiser, but there is a product called "Clic-on" sold by Neovox. Uses the existing "cracks/joins" in the car's dash to fix a plastic mounting onto which you screw your phone kit - no holes in the car's dash board. I have one for my 2004 Pajero and I put one in SWMBO's Camry. They are really good. Mine stood up to 10 week trip including up the Cape
Try www.neovox.com

They also have mounts for PDAs etc

Hi Rob,

I have just fitted one to my 100 series. I dropped in to a few installers and they all said to drill into one of the blank panels in the centre console and mount the cradle to the panel and that the panel can easily replaced when removed. I didn't like this as I wasn't happy with the position of the panels so I dropped into Strathfield and bought a bracket (like the ones described above) for $16 dollars. If fits in between the gap for the centre console.

I screwed the plate in at the top right hand corner of the centre console (just down a bit, in the vertical part) and bent the bracket to fit into this area. I then screwed the cradle into this bracket. The cradle sits just back and above from my left hand so that I don't have to look away too far to see the phone or move my hand too far to use the key pad. Works great for me, if I haven't explained it clearly here just ask.

I bought my car kits on ebay and saved a fortune on new ones. I have a dual band bull bar mount antenna and can use my CDMA and GSM phone from the same cradle.

Thanks for your reply, if it is at all possible can you forward a pic to robandjosie@yahoo.com.au. What came in the kit? Did you have to buy the arial separate? Thanks again.

I'm about to install a kit into my 2000 Frontera SE.
I can't help you with the mounting inside the 100 series but I may be able to help with where to get parts.

I brought a genuine nokia Bluetooth/pop-port car kit (model CK-7W) for approx $160 from Expansys (www.expansys.com.au)
You then need a cradle to hold the phone (MBC-15S) and an antenna coupler (optional) AXF-15S. I brought the coupler and phone holder seperately, but expansys stocks these items.
The prices the retail shops quote are sometimes way over the top and it does pay to shop around. I purchased both the coupler and phone holder for $39 each.

I like the fact that the kit is bluetooth as it will allow the use of other Nokia phones with bluetooth or other Nokia phones that fit compatible cradles.
Hope that helps.
Scotty.

Scotty,
Thanks for your reply, the car kit I'm looking at is a genuine Nokia 126. Just have to look into aerials.

Rob.

Yeah no worries. Trying to work out car kits can be a daunting task with all the different options out there.
My setup is/will be a 6db "Broomstick" and a 3db( or something close) glass mount. I can then plug in the antenna that best suits the terrain that i'm driving in. It's the best of both worlds :-)
