"44 gallon" drums are actually approx 45 gallon capacity....allows a bit of air space if used for fuel.
Answer to original Question....200 litres + 5 litres air space.

The extra space is for expansion, as petrol expands when it is shaken up.

yep steel '44's are 205 litres, the plastic Mauser drums are 205 as well, but some of the indian versions are only 200 lt.

lazy,

Depends on product sold in the drum. Shell used to sell 205L drums of oil, but their Avgas was/is in 200L drums. Shell oils are now sold as 200L, not 205L.

50 US gallons, did anyone mention that?

Hooroo...

Brew, you are talking legit litres obviously. I have been to some service stations that could get 215 litres I reckon including one in Broken Hill last June........

In the US 44 Gallons = 166.55 litre's

key "44 gallon to litre" into Google.

No idea if they are right or wrong, but Google is an excellent conversion tool as well as a search tool.

Cheers,

Glenn.
