Hey Guys, I'm off
camping near
Craig's Hut at the end of this year. Hoping to get a spot somewhere between Pinapple Flat and
King River Hut. Will I struggle to get a spot from the 26th of Dec onwards? Are there some good tracks around this area where I could test out the Brother in Laws new drop shackles? Cheers.

Was up there 2nd weekend in Nov... Kings was PACKED and it wasnt a long weekend. It was the weekend AFTER the longweekend.
We did from Kings right thru past Pineapple.. wasnt bad, but the long weekend was impossible...
I think you will struggle to get anywhere good, but you should be able to find somewhere.
Most will head off on either 24th, or same as you, follow the 1904820894023984029348023948023948 other people heading up there.
Try 16mile Jeep Track, nothing serious, but will be a little different... Also try
Mine Creek Track just before Refuge Hut #3 I think it is.
Again dont expect any peace and quiet.
I'll up some photos tonight of my trip, was plenty of
water too, over steps by a long way of my lifted GQ, in some spots I went lookin for (hee hee) over bonnet.
Good luck

Truckster, you seem to have miscalculated the number of people that will be up there it will be more like 1904820894023984029348023948023949 people, some with campers too!

Yeah, I kinda thought it would be popular up there. I guess we'll give it a burl. Thanks for the response. Is there maybe a different spot in the vacinity that wont be so overpopulated?

Went up there 2 years ago and went up
Mount stirling the interesting way from buller. from the buller village found a track that went near Corn
hill and came out at Howqua gap on the circuit road. kept going up the
hill, not on the circuit road, straight up the track up stirling.
got my stock standard 80 series up there with a few scrapes on the under side, I did have to really pick my way through some spots and tight corners as a standard fourby could get stuck.
Last year though, found a
good campsite at 8 mile flat on the howqua, it was just us and our friends for 3 nights, no other campers

Nick That is a good track, did it in a standard 87 TD Pajero way back when (about 91 I reckon), loved it, it was the first intro to 4wd-ing for the family, baby asleep in the backk, week up there - wonderful.

Twas the first time I had a real go apart from on the farm, it is a fantastic part of the countryside up there, I love it. Spent a year when i was 14 and walked a lot up there, it is so much easier to drive!!!

Bonz..
NOT THE MOBILE ROADBLOCKS!!! EVEN WORSE IN THE BUSH!!!!!!!!!
Smocky.
We visited Craigs the last weekend before track closures. Seriously you couldnt get into the
carpark. Anyoen who has been there will tell you that if people have brains you could easily fit 50 cars in there.
Nick, Are you talking about Clearhills Track over Stirling?? Very nice track...

Truckster,
Wen went down the clear hills track after a short walk up stirling. the most challenging part was from Howqua gap to
the summit, clear hills track was a nice bit of stair climbing. Actually it might all be called clear hills track, Haven't got my KHJ map here, JohnR has it. did
the monument track after craigs hut but it was pretty easy There is another track that goes past GGS hut down to Telephone Box
Junction but every time I have seen it, it was locked. It would be an interesting track, It gets a little muddy at times.
Plenty more good times to be had up there!!!

If you're on your own you will be able to squeeze in somewhere. Plenty of spots along the King although the best will all be gone on xmas day. If you are touring in a large group it's always hard to find a decent
camp during the holidays. Good tracks, try going up the Staircase to Cobbler or Monument track up to Stirling. Both have challenging rocky sections not for novices ;-)
Cheers Craig........

yea was pretty easy in mid Nov when we was there. but I agree, it has potential!!!!!!!!! We need to take a convoy of 100 cars thru there, that should eat it up!
