Can anyone give me an idea of how much fuel a standard 80 series GXL turbo diesel uses around town and on hwy....
Also, any idea's on how much I should be paying for one...say 95 to 97 model.

Thanks

SuzukiSamuri,

My '91 TD Cruiser averages arond 6 to 7 km/litres. This is fairly standard around town and on the hwy. However, as soon as you start travelling over 100kph,the fuel consumption increases to around 5 to 5.5 km/litre.

At a guess, I reckon you will be looking anywhere between 28k and 35k depending on the condition.

Thanks to all the people out there who own 80 Series turbo diesels, I didnt realise there were so many of you, especially after searching all the old posts and finding nothing......amazing....... :[

Anyway, Cheers Mitch, that works out to between 15L/100kms normal driving and up to 20L/100kms at lets say 115kms/h........im a bit stunned. i was really hoping to hear 12-13L/100 but i guess they are a big 6 diesel and if you want power the cost will always be fuel usage....
Iv'e now hit a reall delimer....the petrol is --apparently-- only about 16-18L/100kms, but i can get a lets say 95 model petrol for $20K pretty easily where as a TD will cost me another $10K on top of that. Fuel savings are minimal from what your saying....? tell me if im wrong?
How about power, petrol V's TD...???? any ideas?

I feel like the guy on the toyata add, dreaming in the middle of the night with a twitch......"always been a cruiser man" but now am REALY tempted by the missans....

Maybe i'll just keep my old piece of crap!

NissaNut,

If I had to buy another cruiser, I would not hesitate in getting a turbo diesel over a pertrol. I may be a little bias because of the great run I have had with my current vehicle, but I have no doubt that the towing ability, and lower overall running costs of this vehicle (because I service it myself, nothing to it really) are far better than what I would get with a petrol model, I would go TD all the way.

A mate of mine has a petrol model cruiser and when ever we go on trips together, his fuel economy always seems to be worst than mine.

Forget the missan, go the 80 series, you won't be disappointed.

95 multi-valve turbo diesel , 240000 klm
highway = 10-12 lts to 100 kl depending on the right foot
city = 15 lts to 100 klm

have owned many 4x4 s both petrol and diesel and would never own any thing but a turbo diesel. Love it.
