Finally got my data cable for my new CDMA phone so I can use it as a wireless modem on the new highspeed CDMA X1 system.

It worked but!!!!!!!!

Casual rates at 22cents connect, then 20cents per 10k download, 2 pages Telstra stuff over 2.5minutes cost me $8.93.

Geez I'll do that again. (NOT)

You can subscribe to other plans, minimum being $5.00 per month with 1 meg free then$4.00 per meg.

Back to internet cafes for me.

Regards

Russell if you are on the plan with 'My Hour' or '20c for 10 minutes night' or etc, and have an account with an ISP or Dodo for $9.90 a month, you pay nothing under the 'My Hour' if you are on for less than 20 minutes, and 20c for 10 minutes under the '20c for 10 minutes night' cost you no more than 20c if you stay on for no longer than 10 minutes. If you are a regular user, you can get 10 hours a month including all call charges, no connection fee for $29.95 a month. I use mobile data all the time, and are well experienced if you need any further questions.

Hi,
Just wondering? Can't you just use your CDMA mobile to dial into an internet provider using a national dial in number? Then all you would be paying for is the time you are using the phone for. (at least I hope thats how it works as that is what I am planning on using in the new Year)
I have just joined up with a internet provider called Bizmail and they use the one number for dialing into anywhere in oz and it only costs $12.95 per month. And so far I am using it while still at home and there connection seems to be pretty good, better than my local provider.

Strong rumours suggest that in the first quarter of 2005 Telstra will be unleashing new Voice plans with capped $$$ limits like Vodaphone and Optus have done recenty. It is rumoured that this will include capped data plans like Vodphone currently have.

So expect to see some changes next year as Telstra cant afford their customers to keep moving to competitors to take advantage of the capped limits.

If you are a medium to large company Telstra will currently sell you a $50 per month uncapped mobile data plans. This allows all of those "suits" to use Blackberry devices and the like.

Cheers,

Glenn.

Hi,
You may be better off using "Mobile Internet" from telstra. With a CDMA phone you dial #777 and it connects at 14.4 kbps. Not real fast but ok for looking at a few pages and getting your email. It costs about 16 cents a minute off-peak (after 7pm)
There is no limit on download data (at that speed it would take a while anyway to rack up a bill)
It works anywhere there is CDMA coverage. You need to register for it, I think.

Cheers

Russell,

I have some of my staff researching an alternative plan for you that may reduce the cost of this exercise for you. The only other info required is whether you are currently contracted fo the mobile plan you are on and the $ value of the plan you are on. If you could supply this info it would make the forecast plan a bit more accurate. The fact that you mentioned that your on casual rates tends to point to a Members Casual plan.

cheers

No plan just 10 pm each for 2 cdma phones.

$20 credit available regardless which phone uses it.

I'm surrounded by technology, have been for 30 years, cell phones don't mean much to me , only use it for emergency or when travelling.

No contract.

With Telstra (not teltra) ;-)

Regards

Russell

Hi Russell

The plans below are the ones that are available to choose from. It is dependant on the amount of data you download, as there is no flag fall charges once you opt for one of the following plans. Includes a set number of allowed kilobytes as part of an included monthly allowance. This can be used for eligible data usage^^ of Telstra Mobile Broadband - 1xEV-DO and CDMA 1X
monthly Access Fee ` Monthly Allowance(MB)
$5 1
$10 3
$29 10
$49 30
$99 200
$149 500
$199 1024
$249 2048

an earlier post suggsted dialling into an IP but there is no dial up access into an IP service from your phone

my hour does not offer any reduction in the charging if you use Data Pack (Kilobyte charging) although if you use the PC PAck (timed charging) you are eligible for 4 free sesions

Unfortunatley off peak rates do not apply to internet usage so whatever time of the day you log in the cost will be the same.

Best option is to go into a Telstra shop and have a chat with the rep their. They will try to up sell you a new phone and contract (after all that is what they are employed to do) but stay firm and they will more than likley point you n the right direction.

Don't forget to check the oppositon rates as well as they could be cheaper and may offer you credits for porting your service over to them. The only issue is service coverage with other providers.

Hope it helps
