Can anyone tell me quickly -
- if you are charging a deep cycle battery either in a camper or caravan via mains power(e.g powered site) through the onboard battery charger, doesn't the battery if it's being charged need it's caps off.
When I charge a battery at home I was advised to always unscrewed/removed the caps.
?????

Used to run a battery
shop when I was is the Army and we used to remove the caps to vent the batteries and prevent hydrogen build-up. Used to have 4 banks of up to 20 batteries each, charging off enormous 3 phase chargers.
Most commercially available chargers wont put out anywhere near the current of those jobbies so you shouldn't have a problem. Just keep an eye on the temperature of the battery and make sure the vents aren't bloked.
As always though, the battery should be in a
well ventilated area while being charged. Any charging action will cause hydrogen output which can be explosive.
Cheers, John
