Truck: Nissan GU
Maker: OME (ARB)
Impression: excellent, truck rides much better, more articulation and 50mm+ increased clearance
Cost: about $1100 (shocks and springs fitted)
Value for money: About what I expected

Truck: GQ Maverick
Maker: Ironman
Impression: Excellent, clearance up, load carrying up up up, ride, about the same
Cost: About $600 (shocks and springs) about 4 yrs ago
Value for money: Out of this world

Can only comment on OME and good comments they are.I have OME shocks, steering dampner, rear coils and torsion bars.Only recently got round to installing the torsion bars and she's now handling better than it ever has.
Done three months away last year over some pretty rough areas and shocks preformed awsome. You also get the added bonus that there are ARB outlets everywhere to replace them if you do have a problem.

Run an ARB/OME setup 60mm HD rear 35mm standard front lift. Much better ride and ground clearance than the standard setup. Only problem was that the front bottom bushes went after a Simpson crossing but were replaced under warranty outside KM but within the time limit.

Not sure, just bought what was recommended for my vehicle.
Their site arb
indicates they do both constant and variable rate coils.

Skip,

I got TJM to fit AGS shockers all round and rear springs and ratcheted up the torsion bars. They don't have torsion bars for the Jerry Can yet. Cost $900. Add on about $250 for a set of front springs for your Prado.

Gave me 45mm lift allover and handles like a dream. Body roll has been reduced dramatically and almost no rear end sag when I hook up the camper and fill the back of the car. Note the Jerry is VERY soft to start with.

Worth a look at TJM as well as the others.

Just my two bob's worth.

Cheers,

Jim.

Fitted 50mm King springs and Gabriel foam cell shocks all round on an 80 series 3 years ago. Handles and rides so much better than standard. Has handled all club trips with no dramas and the cost $240.00 for springs and about $440.00 for shocks. Excellent value for money.
I can also confer with the Iron Man comments. Excellent value for money.

Skip,

I'm having the Ridepro shocks, damper and Dobinson springs fitted next week to my GU Patrol. 50mm lift. Cost $1030. Will let you know how it goes. Looked at Koni and Kings and OME. Like the 41mm bore size of the shock and the guys who will be fitting them.

Peter,
I would be interested in your thoughts as I am thinking of going down a similar path with the Ridepro shocks, look to be excellent value for money

Hi Skip,

I have just picked up my new Prado (only 2 weeks ago) and fitted the OME shocks and coils. Total cost was $1444.

The lift was fantastic, 60mm in the rear and about 45- 50mm in the front. I also have a dual battery, and winch bull bar, so when the car is unloaded the nose is a little lower...not too noticible though. Once the tank is full and there is a bit of gear in the back it's all good.

I also have a Mitsubishi Challenger and fitted the TJM XGS 2000 shocks which were fantastic...although TJM don't yet make a system for the new Prados. They only supply Bilstein's for approx $2000.

I would certainly recommend the OME shocks and coils.

Good luck though.

For least troubles getting parts etc - OME are the answer.

HOWEVER, King Springs and the factory shocks are hard to beat from a cost / performacne aspect. You can always upgrade the shocks later if your immediate requirement is lift, as the factory shocks rarely leak, and last the vehicle warranty period (were as some after market units have short life span!).

I've had a few sets of shocks on a Prado, and Bilstiens wont be on my re-purchase list for either end of the car.

Currently running Kings Springs & shocks sourced from Don Kyatt (truck parts)
