A mate sent me this and I thought I would post it for those who are interested.

"Just thought you would like to know.

I rang the National Parks & Wildlife here in Adelaide, & spoke to the
head fire dude.

I asked him this.

"In summer, you have signs in all your parks, saying GAS FIRES ONLY.,
So, what's the go with metho & dual fuel stoves?"

Although there is NO distinct legislation, if push came to shove, you
would lose out badly if you use anything other than gas.

I was contemplating buying an MSR Dragonfly, but have since changed my
mind. I've since ordered another 1.2kg. Bottle & gas ring with Peizo.

Don't know how this equates in the other states, but here in SA, it's
GAS, or nothing. NO HEAT BEADS, NO SHELLITE, NO METHO, NO SOLID FUEL.
All of the NO thingies can be alight, and get blown around in the wind,
or spill, and catch bleep on fire. ( my words, not Smokey's! )."

I found it interesting. Not sure how it applies in other states either but it could be worth looking into. I only use gas so it doesn't affect me, but could be useful for others.

Cheers,

Jim.

Dont know if the regulations are the same here in wa but over here npws is called calm and they WILL prosecute you if they can - none of this using common sense thing. There is a guy over here being prosecuted for chainsawing the jaw off of a beached whale. Calm is not only prosecuting him they thought it looked like a good idea so they took his jaw then got a dozer and ripped the jaws off of the other beached whales. Not a month goes by without simular sories of calm madness

Why would anyone want to desecrate the body of a great animal like a whale just for a trophy, beats me. I'm guessing that calm removed the others to stop other idiots following suit.

Davoe,

Why on earth would anyone want to hack the jaws off a dead whale?

I don't think he should be prosecuted, rather he should be treated. The bastard must be sick.

Anyway that's just me.

Sure, kill an animal for food if need be (most of us eat slaughtered meat at some time), but I'm with Pat. Trophies? That's sad.

And let me tell you I'm no Greenie nor Animal Liberationist, not that they are bad people.

Cheers,

Jim

look guys on the surface it sounds a bit sick but they interviewed this guy on radio and he relized it may have been a bit contoversial but he didnt know it was illegal. the whales were sperm whales and he wanted the jaw for its teeth. I mean cmon the whale was dead and calm certainly did not do it to stop others they wanted the teeth too

Is that all the time or a fire ban day . Here in vic on ban days there is no fires what so ever , gas or not .
Even if you are in a caravan park by the law you are in breach when using a gas fired anything .
It is summed up by saying that unless you are in a permanant dwelling all fires are prohibited on total fire ban days .
Tough but very fair and needed ,

Not sure F, just passing on what my mate said.

Good luck with the test drive tomorrow. Just keep in mind you'll need to spend about $900 on the suspension to make it drive right if you choose to go that way.

I'm happy for you to pop around to my place and drive mine if you would like to.

Cheers,

Jim.

For us here in victoria the CFA site has a good Can i or Can't i section . Also you can get a handout from the local CFA ststion.

http://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/restrictions/can.htm

Thanks for the offer of the drive .
The diesel was good but because i was told it was a no no from the wife i lost interest in it a bit . It was smooth on the pickup not sluggish but not wiz bang either , pretty quiet and cruised well .Looks real cool with the bonnet scoop .
