As part of our long trek, we were planning to travel across the Tanami from Alice Springs to Halls Creek then up to the Bungle Bungles before proceeding to Broome and down the WA coast. Unfortunately we are a month behind schedule and understand that the BB national park is closed from the beginning of October (we'd reach there 2nd week in Oct at the earliest) so we are planning an alternative trek to reach the mid WA coast. We'd appreciate any ideas/experiences about taking the Great Central Road (not the Gunbarrel) from Yulara to Leonora, up to Meekathara via Wiluna, then across to Carnravon. We'd be departing Yulara about beginning of the 2nd week in October and would appreciate advice about road and weather conditions at that time, and availability of fuel. We have a 3lTD Patrol and are towing an off-road camper-trailer. Thanks for your time.

We have recently travelled across the Great Central but in the reverse to what you want to do. We had no problems with the road but there is no ULP after leaving Yulara until you get to Tjurk..... roadhouse. What we did was phone and confirm. There have been lots of rumours but there is definitely fuel available at this roadhouse. All of the others have diesel.
Could be a little hot around that time - wasn't for us. We enjoyed every minute of our trip.
Happy travelling

Just to assist, Purnululu NP (ie the bungle bungles NP) is not closed until December unless there is unseaonable heavy rain. This was info from the Kimberely regional office of the Dept of Conservation and land management. Hope that helps with your trip planning.
