I recently purchased a battery tray for my GUII Patrol from ARB and it would not fit. To fit an ARB Battery Tray you need to move the air cannisters. I wasted a lot of time and when I contacted ARB I was advised that because my vehicle is fitted with ABS Brakes the tray would not fit.
I returned the tray and contacted TJM who supplied a tray. The tray from TJM fitted easily without any need to move the air cannisters.
I emailed ARB advising them of the problems and suggesting to them they improve the design of their tray.
For anyone out there who is purchasing a battery tray to put a dual battery system on a Patrol save youfself a lot of time and effort and purchase the TJM tray.

kumanara,
It looks like things haven't changed much in 5 years.
I had a similar experience with ARB battery trays on my GU1 4.2td (no ABS).
The first tray didn't look like fitting, so I took it back.
ARB told me they were aware of the problem and were working on a new tray (so why give me the original?).
I waited 8 weeks for the redesigned tray. Guess what? It didn't fit either.
I took the second tray back and got a refund.
Went to TJM and had a look at their tray, decided it was crap (for the money), and went home and made my own. I had a dual battery setup my previous car so I modified the tray to suit the Patrol. Took about half a day. No need to relocate bits.
I spent less time making my own tray, than running around to ARB/TJM.
You'd reckon that ARB, with all their resources, would be able to get it right.
On a positive note, they were very easy to deal with.
Cheers
Geoff

Geoff, My first patrol, GU1 no abs 4.2td, tray from ARB fitted ok , had to drill a few holes and all ok, about December 1999. No moving canisters or anything else... What was the main problem? It was a piece of cake...

Michael,
Both ARB trays would have eventually gone into the correct location, but both required the relocation of the canisters (to the rear of the bracket), relocation of the overflow bottle (from memory, about 50mm rearward), and the drilling of several holes (all as per their installation instructions).
After doing all that, the trays would have had to sit on about a 5 degree angle if I wanted the bonnet to close! Not good enough, IMHO.
The overall height of the trays was greater than the available height.
I suppose there are varying degrees of "fit"...........
Cheers
Geoff

I'll just confirm again for my GU III TD6
The ARB tray fits no problem, did it yesterday.
The biggest problem was I thought the overflow coollent
hose was not in the best position, so I re-routed.
Also I paid $115 for the tray in Alice.

The overflow hose is meant to be re-routed, from memory it is clipped to the lower edge of the new tray. No holes to be drilled from memory.. I thought is was a
well made tray as you did. michael

I have a 2000 3.0 GU Patrol. ABS fitted. After farting around fitting the dual battery tray from ARB, it wasn't untill we went into the north west and sucked a lung full of dust into the air filter / air flow meter/ turbo / motor etc; which tripped out the computer. Thats when I realised, that when I pushed the airbox (slightly) towards the front of the vehicle to get the tray in, I accidently broke the seal on the pipe that goes from the air box to the inner guard where the air intake is.
BUMMER to say the least. Thanks for such a great design Mr Nissan !!!!!!
After having a
snorkel fitted, the guy's who fitted it said the've seen it before !!!

It's a bit rich blaming Nissan for problems caused by the dodgy installation of an aftermarket item..........

Purchased
mine from ARB, looked at others and decide they were a bit weak in design and construction. All about the same price anyway.
Mine went in no probs, no drilling and all bolts and fittings matched the holes in the guard perfectly. (wish a had an eye in the end of my finger) My patrol is a 2003 model 3 litre auto ST with no ABS. Tray was $100.00 in
Townsville.
