Has anyone fitted a dual battery set up to current nissan navara (turbo diesel)? If so where did they put it & what size battery fitted? Does fitting a
snorkel remove the pre-cleaner & allow a second battery to fit in the front LHS corner?
Any help anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers

We looked at the new Navara and decided (if we bought on, I do not like the idea of going back to manual and I do not care what others think!) the only place to put a second battery of a decent size was in the back in the ute section. Not a lot of space under the bonnet which is funny really because I thought it would have been the same as a Patrol. Still I will be interested if anyone has done it. What size battery and where did they get a battery tray?

The preliminary investigations that I have undertaken seem to indicate that for a current model TD Navara the dual battery needs to be mounted in the back tray. However, I spoke to a guy at opposite lock in
Darwin who says that there is a part listing in their system for a engine bay mount dual battery tray. I just can't see where?
Give them a try, and let us all know.
Regards.

Matty,
Here's a copy of something I've posted many times int the past.
"I"ve got a great setup. It was installed by Chris at Battery World, WANTIRNA, Vic. He put a smart solenoid under the bonnet, ran 140 amp cable along the chassis and popped it back into the car attached to an Anderson plug. He then put a 100 amp Lifeline "AGM" battery into a battery box. The battery box has cable running out of it to another Anderson plug so the battery can be removed when not needed or to be used as a mobile power supply. Inside the box he fitted a circuit breaker and two female waeco/Hella plugs to the box. He also added a three way cig socket plug with a male Waeco/Hella plug on the end to give me three power outlets if needed. The other female plug on the box is used to power my fridge, an Engel which I got him to fit a Waeco plug to as they clip in and stay in. Total cost $700.
AGM batteries have the advantage that they are completely sealed and will accept an extremely high recharge rate, basically whatever you can throw at them. A normal deep cycle will only take about 5 amps, so takes a lot of driving to get them back to full. AGM's of this size are reported to fully charge from near flat in 2-3 hours.
The other big advantage is the portability. Went away two weeks ago to some unpowered cabins up the bush and was able to take the battery into the cabin to power the fridge, lights and laptop to fiddle with my photography.
I can't speak highly enough of the setup.
Cheaper and more versatile than your normal under bonnet setup, however takes up a bit of space in the back."
Cheers,
Jim

Good Idea Jim, just make sure it's tied down, or could be painfull in an accident.

i got a pirhana duel battery system and a tray in the rear section of the right hand side engine compartment just need to move the fuel filter/primer but all the gear came in my battery tray which is 9 inch for that model from memory but can be folded down on one end to get a 10 inch battery in.
or there is the option of the front battery tray i am told but height is a drama .
i have a safari
snorkel with the useless prefilter removed (breathes easier) but i opted for the 10 inch model tray to match my free new 74 ah deep cycle battery and my $80 pirhana duel battery management system .
matched to a fusebox then regulated to my waeco/blue apple 12 volt lead to the rear fridge slide and soon to be anderson leads to the rear bumper for my one day camper.

Toonfish,
Thanks for the reply. Do the aircon hoses get in the way after you have moved fuel filter? I have been given an Odyssey 1500 cca battery (which I have been told can lay on its side) & was hoping to be able to fit it in the front corner after i remove the pre-cleaner so height shouldn't be a problem. Do you have ant ideas as to who makes the front battery tray?
Cheers

it may take a custom tray (nickel plated ) to fit the height of the oddysey battery as the height on its side will be a larger base.
having said that i dont think the side (now top )will have any dramas fitting in.
if you member message me i will try and find my mechanic mate (away on hols ) who ordered the part as i cant find the fitting instructions and part number (i had both front and rear engine compartment part numbers but the arb compressor lives in the front.
no the air conditioner lines were not rubbing or intruding on the tray as it placed the battery trim with the engine bay skin.
hope this helps.
u can e-mail me the link is on my member page
merry x-mas
