Hi all, well I've done it - quit work and 'gone public'!

We're off at the end of Jan for 12 months. We're heading south from Brisbane, down to Tassie, back up through the centre, up to the gulf, turn left and loop through NT, WA and back round the bottom. Generally we're avoiding major cities and going the back route.

I'm planning on posting details as we go on my site (or snippets on here if that gets too hard) - I'll also put up more car and trip details over the next week or so.

Many many thanks to everyone here - over the past couple of years I've skirted the edges of the forum but read and learnt a lot.

As you can imagine we're all very excited (2+2 rugrats)!!. The car (Challenger) and trailer (off road Jackoroo) are ready - all that's really let if to prep the house prior to the renters moving in.

I'll pick up an EO sticker soon and put it on the back before we go. Stop and say hello if you see us on the road :-)

My Fiance and I are getting married at the end of Feb and am planning to do the same as you guys and leaving in early march, but we are heading west first then accross the top, then down thru the centre. There is sooo much to think of and organise (and save...) :)
Site looks good too by the way.
Hope to see you out there

Thanks! So far so good...like the shots of your Challenger too. We're passing thru SA mid April-ish and planning on stopping in Robe (and the Coonawarra), Coorong, Kangaroo Island, the Baroosa, Flinders, Oodnadatta and I think Dalhousie Springs.

P.S. hoping to post some photo's this weekend so watch out if you're interested in any of the mods. I'm currently trying to build a shelf system for the back too (after taking out the parcel shelf).

Good luck with the trip, hope you have the time of your life!!

I realise the ACT probably isn't on let alone anywhere near you planned route, but if you are near here or need help near here, give a yell!!

Hi Sandy, we're planning on doing the Alps/High Country way to Melbourne so we will be driving thru ACT.

We've never seen ACT so we're planning on staying in the area for a few nights before moving on to somwhere around Kosi. So far the plan is to at least pop into Canberra and have a look around.

Any suggestions on family friendly places to stay would be appreciated - National Parks or even caravan parks (might need some 'luxury' by then!).

Ditto for tracks in the area - although I do have a copy of the High Country 4WD book which I'll be using extensively.

We'll be there late Feb - we think :-)

Cheers, Juma

http://www.canberratourism.com.au/

This is a good site to get an idea of some of the great places to see in Canberra.

Depending on your rugrats ages the war memorial is excellent and is only a coin donation to enter. The Museum of Australia is another great place, and free to enter (charges for special exhibits). They probably sound boring, but my kids love going to both of them!!

As for 4wd tracks can only comment on the Brindabella's, it's a beautiful area, easy or hard driving something for everyone.

Once you're more sure of your trip details and how long you have, what you want to do etc. Let us know if you want any particular information!!

Steve is always looking for an excuse to go 4wding, so if you want a guide let us know!!

Sandy

In Canberra there is a park called something Australian National Village - sort of North of town on main road - has caravan park as well as motel and flats - nice place.

Hi Juma,
Re Kangaroo Is you really should enjoy it. Go down to the west end and check out the camp sites and walks into the beaches. Magic country; we spent a month on the Is in April after planning to go over for a fortnight.
Book your ferry crossing thro the RAA if you are a member of a similar organisation which has reciprocal rights you will save about 10% off a really expensive slug.
Best of luck,
Camper
