Anyone got anything on Gas Conversions?
Read a bit about it in mags etc.
Used to have a converted tojo 45 troopie but it had valve burn-out problems.
I hear there is a diesel/gas conversion but mainly used on big stuff???

G'day kdarvel,
I recently purchased an Aug '99 GU Patrol Ti (at 88K Km) which is 4.5L petrol - and a bit of a guzzler. I did some sums on converting it to dual fuel LPG/petrol and the numbers looked good. It cost $3,300 to convert including a 92L usable LPG
tank and replaced the sub
tank (35L) with a 75L
tank for petrol to give me good range where LPG might be scarce.
My sums suggested that fuel cost savings would give me a payback on the $3,300 in 28K Km of normal driving or about 17K Km pulling a 2T van. After that it's money in the bank.
I had my local Nissan dealer do the job, including a 3 year warranty and all tanks are underneath - and you switch from one to the other with the push of a button.
I can find no difference in performance under LPG or petrol with unladen usage at approx. 4Km/L for LPG and 6Km/L for petrol.
I note that JustCruisin did his Big One with a 20+Ft van in tow with same vehicle June-October covering 18,000+Km (
Adelaide-
Darwin-
Broome-
Perth-
Port Augusta-
Adelaide) and only a couple of times had to rely on petrol. See justcruisin.bigpondhosting.com
I hope this is of interest and value to you.
Merry Christmas
LPGPete
