hi all,
my plastic caps on the battery where you top up the distilled water when removed you can see a build up of grey paste.the battery is only 6 months old so im wondering how i could of over charged/loaded or is it a poor quality battery.
i use a redarc solenoid in the dual battery setup and paralell the battery to a larger battery in the camper trailer i understand the trailer will never be fully charged (due to impedence).the people where i purchased it are saying that i some how cooked it but checking the car cranking battery/alternator and voltages etc can find no problem.
if it is my system ill fix it, if its a poor quality battery ill knock on there door a few times.
cheers rob

Hi Rob,
Do a capacity test on the battery and that will tell you the condition of it. If the battery case is clear look for debris on the bottom of the cells, thius is called mossing and also look inside the cells for warped plates, this is all signes of a dud battery, as for the sludge, it could be contamination from dirt or something from when you open them. or when the battery was made. One way to fix this is to buy some more electrolyte from a auto store, drain the old electrlyte from the battery, preffereably after you have drained it flat, flush it out and refill it. Just make sure everything is clean when you put the caps back on.

I would hope that you called the ambulance after you tried to shoot me, people have tried to shoot me before by the way. But I have drained, cleaned and filled many batteries before and have never had a problem. Did it heaps when I was in the navy.
