Shorted out alternator o/p terminal yesterday, just trying to fit a radio suppressor capacitor. biggest arcs and sparks i have ever seen under a bonnet, as soon as i put the socket on the terminal screw to see if it was the right size i knew i should taken the battery off. 24v straight to chassis.
i now know there are 4 fusible links off the +ve 24 road side battery in a VX cruiser. and 10mm sockets can glow to a zillion degrees C. live and learn

Not much to say.....but dont you hate that........I checked my Aircleaner in Seisa on my 100 series, guess what one of the cheapass fusible links for an accessory fitted near the air cleaner by Opposite lock had rattled loose on the trip up the Cape and shorted when i knocked it with my arm.
This proved to much for the +ve wire and turned the whole thing into a fuse! We survived so did the battery and now i look for all things electrical before I stick anything metal near the vehicles go gear.
Cheers Pete

A guy i used to know had a nice scar around his wrist from a truck battery and a metal watch band. It burnt so deep that he nearly lost his hand.
I welded a spanner to out old tractor years ago. Now I disconnect the -ive first.
