Hi guys, I'm in the market for a new 4x4 dual cab & am struggling to decide which is any better than the next.
I would appreciate any opinions on current models. Main use is long road trips with 2 kids so backseat comfort is important. Also a bit of beach work.

Thanks

Faramir,
If the kids are young, most of the dual cabs are OK re the comfort side but no good for older teenages due to the lack of leg room in the back.
I have had 2 Holden Rodeos and clocked up over 350,000km without putting a spanner to them other than breaks & shockers which I class as a normal maintance item. They are great on sand and only need a surspension lift to improve their off road ability.
My simple 20 cents worth. Hope it helps
Vince

love my hilux but the mazda/ford look ok to. the hilux has the most rear leg room i think, and u r always gonna get parts for them, never forget the time i got a batch of bad fuel in the back of qld and needed a new fuel filter, pulled up at some station in the middle of noware and they had one to suit. thats the bennifit of a popular model. but with the quality of the cars nowdays i think most models are prity good.

Might pay to wait for Toyota's new model. (March?) Will surely be the market leader. Cheers Craig..............

Have a good look at the Nissan Navara 3ltr td.
Then sit in the back yourself after adjusting front seat to your driving position and this should give you a good idea of room.
The donk is the same as the Patrol but not intercooled.
Very easy on fuel and goes like the clappers.
I used to have a handle on life, but it broke.

Cheers Dodg.

We have 2001 Rodeo dual cab 3.0td Auto.

Bought it ( after having a v6 Rodeo 4wd as a company car ) as it was the only one on the market that has an auto trannie in a diesel.

Strange I know, but as the Rodeo is a tourer for us, I wanted an auto.
Have since done the full bar work thing, canopy and tub liner, 31 inch coopers , and a 3 inch lift..

I looked at rear leg room and actually thought the Rodeo better than all the others.
Only problem is rear seat squab, and all dual cabs are shocking in that regard.

Not sure if the new model is any better , but given its bigger inside I wouldn't think it would be worse.

New Hilux will be interesting thought, There will be an auto diesel I have heard.

We have a 95 Rodeo petrol (2.6), and a 2004 Rodeo diesel (Ti).

Both have more rear leg room than the other models.

95 petrol lacks a little on power, but is acceptable.

04 has heaps of power with the intercooled turbo, but there is a bit of lag due to the length of intake piping.

Both lack a little clearance, being spring under (axle) adds to that, but then you get more stability.

In 5 days a Calmini 3" lift kit goes on the 95 model so that will fix the clearance issue :-)

Both have done beach work (Bribie Is & Mackay) with the petrol being the better (different power delivery).
