Yah i know i will copbleepe for this ..BUT.. yesterday i was following a new nissan navara with the 'Truckster special' 3.0 motor, now i know that these things had a habit of hand grenading early on, and are now supposedly sweet..
Well i was directly behind this guy, he was driving steadily ie. no accell or decell. and no load on board doing about 105. the coughs and farts of black smoke coming out of the tailpipe were so bad Toni leant over and switched the air to re-circ. Man this thing was in a bad way, and the vehicle looked no more than a few months old, so i'm guessing there may be another parked out the back of the dealers before long. Pretty poor effort i reckon from nissan, they have had that much development and feedback on these by now that this sort of thing should be
well and truly sorted.
Not looking to start a war, but just thought it was bleep -poor..

I thought problems were only with earlier GU patrol engines because of the intercooler and higher power output. Never heard of Navara going. Friend has first model navara 3.0 TD, tows 1500kg offroad caravan, done 80000km and never faltered.

same here champ, i thought probs were supposed to be sorted by now, thats why i was very surprised with what i saw. As i stated elsewhere, this thing was in showroom condition and i would bet not even had its first service yet, so was in full factory spec.

Gee, Bradley,
I saw a Cayenne doing the same thing the other day, so obviously they're bad too.
Does that also mean that every time you see someone's vehicle running badly or not at all, then those vehicles are duds??
Maybe the guy in the Cayenne had put diesel in his, and the guy in the Patrol had put petrol in his one.
Then again my mates 100 series was also running like a dog a few months ago, so it's a dog too. (BTW We fixed it in five minutes by reconnecting a wire which had fallen off)
ie: your post is TOTALLY irrelevant, a waste of time and effort and nothing but Patrol bashing. YOU are, quote (your words) " bleep -poor...".

hmm na bleep poor is not being able to read , never mentioned a patrol did I ????
I think that any family of engine that has had a long history with major re-development and still shows flaws is poor, i dont descriminate about the make, dont get me started on gen3 v8's either... (btw i have actuall industry experience) This particular vehicle was so new that i would bet it hadn't even seen the first service yet, so was in 'factory condition' - hence my dissapointment in what i saw. I would not be happy if i had just shelled out the money on a new car and someone dobbed me in to the epa for smoke violations, as could be a very real scenario with the NAVARA i saw.
If you are a patrol owner with a chip on your shoulder then thats your prob. Dont take out your insecurities on me...
"disclaimer - i actually like patrols as a vehicle and think they are quite capable, and don't think that all owners have a chip on their shoulders"

Another Disclaimer...... I don't own a 3.0 litre Navara OR Patrol.
I could also tell you a wonderfull tale about a friend's Jackeroo- but I won't.
Maybe you didn't mention Patrols DIRECTLY, but the inference was definitely there.
If everyone filled this
forum up with every sick or disabled vehicle they saw then it would be a pathetic waste of time. Like I said, I saw a very sick Cayenne- but I still think they're a brilliant (though way overpriced) vehicle.
If this said Navara was so new- then it's even more likely they'd put some petrol into it instead of diesel- EXACTLY that happened to my neighbour's new Disco diesel.
The guy's wife was driving the near new vehicle, filled it up and guess what she pumped into the
tank- good old unleaded- as she was used to doing on their previous car. It ran rough as guts, smoked like crazy yet she drove it that way for quite some distance.
HooRoo, and Cheers, and happy new year.

take a chill pill
fair comments on a vehicle exhibiting strange behaviour for something 'new and improved'
that's how we all learn, by each others observations

Na the symptoms i saw were not fuel type related as i have seen that a few times before, definetly ecu & fuel control problem.
Dont worry about telling me a jack prob, i wont be offended, actually i will do my best to offer suggestion and help, as i always do.
Mate one of the best things about this
forum is the willingness of everyone to 'spread the word' about vehicle & equiptment probs, cause as you probably know, the manufacturers will always tow the line of 'never heard of any probs before- yours must be unique'.
Just about every 3rd or 4th post is regarding a prob, or wanting a heads up about known probs, thats one of the things that makes it great. Early in the peace i chased some info on equip. i was looking at , and got some great first hand answers which saved me about $500 so i gladly became a member, and its paid off many times over since as
well.
Hey - tell us all the story of a not so great 'supercar' (the porsche) it might be good to know what you get for your hundreds of thousands..Might make us paupers fell a bit better :-)))))
cheers.
