Hi all, I want to take the family out for the day tommorrow and was hoping someone could tell me of any good day trips within a couple of hours from penrith with a nice little waterhole. Back to work wednesday so it has to be a short one. Been to newnes, glow worm tunnel and yarrandri. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Jim

Jim,
Try Megalong Creek crossing in Megalong Valley, not that far past the Tea Rooms in the Valley. Think you can get down to Cox's River on one of roads in Megalong, but not sure which one. Would be good swimming there.

Also Erskine Creek in Blue Mountains Nat. Park, or Level Crossing, on Glenbrook Creek on way out to Euroka or Erskine Ck.

Also Colo River on Putty Road. This might be wall to wall people though, far too many for my liking. Probably heaps of people in all these areas.

Take care,

Another suggestion is in the Kangaroo Valley. Beautiful waterfalls, great picnic areas near the old convict sandstone bridge. We use to go camping down there reguarly on the banks of the river that feeds the dam.

If you are interested in that spot, turn right at the sign that says to the tip and follow this along for about 5 klms I think, turning left at the pumping station then follow this road down to the reserve. May be a few campers there but a beautiful spot all the same.

Just the drive into and through the Valley past all the ferns is worth the drive.

I hope where ever you choose you will enjoy yourselves.

Cheers,

Patrick

Lake Lyell just to the west of Lithgow, plenty of 4 wheeling in the SF behind the lake and plenty of water around in the creeks/dam.
Abercrombie NP or down to the Kowmung just off the Kanangra walls rd, might take more than 2 hours though.
