Evan
All,
I searched but didn't find a whole lot of info about fuel consumption with the Prado 120 series and 1GR-FE 4.0l V6, generally people seem to be saying 11-12l/100kms for highway and 15-17l/100kms city which is very good but thats without a load, i plan on at times towing upto 2200kgs. (towing on road only) Anybody have an real world experience ?
My offroading is confined to touring tracks fire
trails etc so prado should easily handle that i would hope.
Anybody know when the 1KD-FTV 3.0l direct injection, common rail, variable vane turbo will be released in Australia ? (that would be ideal)
I have also cosidered 3.0l patrols as a possible vehicle as
well. Any comments ?
Thanks, Evan

3.0 ltr patrol has had reliability issues, though should now be fixed, 4.2 is the choice if longevity ie long term ownership, is important. 2200 kg is alot of weight to be towing, have a look underneath prado and patrol and I believe the disparity between the size of the drivelines (gearbox diffs, unis) should indicate which vehicle is better equiped to tow that sort of weight. Cheers

I know a bit about the reliability and i dont believe that will be an issue now, also its lease car so i will proberbly only keep it 3 years to remain in warrenty.
4.2l is just so old and really not that powerful, the 4.2 in the cruiser is a nice engine but pitty about the rest, and most of all the price ! for not much more i could go and buy a bmw x5 (no low range and not a real 4wd but good for towing i am told)
My main concern with the patrol is the power, only 118kw and 380nm which is not a lot, and thats ECE not DIN power rating so even less really. Wish i could find 0-100 times for the patrol but cant frind it anywhere.

4.8 on gas is a possability , its got the power thats for sure, and the new direct injection type gas systems are very very good although a little expensive to first install. Dont know anybody that has done one as yet and i am not sure how easy it would be to get a decent amount of gas on board.
I used to have a 4.5l petrol GU on gas, didn't get too many kms to a talk of gas. (although it was a lot lot cheaper to run on gas)

Hi Evan. I've got a Prado120 V6. Took it from Melb to
Alice Springs & return mid year, 4 of us, fully loaded with
camping gear etc, roofrack, & towing a T-Van. Worst consumption on the highway at approx 110-120kph was 20l/100km!!!
Normal unladen city driving gets me around 12l/100km

Thanks for the info, not really what i wanted to hear because i think the petrol 6's are great (maybe just not great for me)
I have heard also toyota are doing really good deals on the 4.2l turbo LC but proberbly not for fleet discount as
well.
Atleast i have a month or 2 to find out somehow if they will ever release the 1KD-FTV in aust prado or decide to buy a patrol.

Rumours I've heard say that the newer diesel Prado engine will show up with the mid life facelift, possibly due mid-late 2005.
Toyota do keep things close to their chest tho...
