With the need for more fridge space in the last week i have been running a waeco off the mobitronics rectifier when some
water dripped on it and it sizzled. While waiting for it to dry out i ran the fridge off a battery with a 2.7amp output rated jaycar off the shelf battery charger to keep it topped.
Getting bored and looking at the details on the i note it says "MINIMUM CAPACITY: 20Ah". Huh ? what does this mean, does it mean it can't put in more than 20amps or something or do they mean don't put it on batteries with RC of more than 20amps ? (would seem nuts) There is no mention of battery size recommendations so i am stumped as to what this means.
(and for the record after the mobitronics sizzled (literals sound and no embellishment there) it did dry out and it does work fine again and the 12v blade fuse did not blow).
And also i run the charger through a solar charge controller so as not to
cook the battery though that is highly unlikey with 2.7amps I understand.

It means don't use this charger on a battery rated at less than 20 Ah. For example, don't use it to recharge 12V cordless drill batteries rated at 2 Ah. The maximum capacity doesn't matter - you just have to leave it plugged in longer to fully charge bigger batteries.
In short, your temporary setup was fine.

That's correct,
it's because it would put in charge too quickly in one of the smaller batteries such as a small sealed lead-acid.Hope your mobitronics is not destroyed.
Happy new year to all, cheers

ta, of course. So it was just a very badly worded warning. The mobitronics is working fine today (tested it on some 12v lights), it was weird though i was moving a plastic bag around and
water dripped on where the mains lead goes into the unit and i then heard it sizzling and then some crackling and then it all stopped. But the blade fuse was okay so i put it in the sun for a few hours and now seems fine, i hope.
