Hi all, Does anyone have experience or recomendations for an aftermarket cruise control for a 2001 3L Turbo diesel Prado?
I have had cruise control on previous auto station wagons and interested in comments with manual diesel. I do quite a bit of caravan towing so that may be a signifigant consideration.

GeeTee,
I have an "AP 50" brand cruise control fitted to my 85 HJ 75 diesel. It was purchased from K-mart quite a few years ago. It has given no problems so far except for losing the odd magnet or two on rough roads.
When going up a
hill and the speed drops roughly 10% under the set speed it will drop out. I am usually ready for this and have my foot on the accelerator. Excellent on undulating country or flat country. Would'nt be without it. Hope this helps in some way.
Cheers,
Bros.

Hi Gee Tee
We don't have a Prado, but have put cruise control on our 2003 4.2L turbo diesel troopy. It is Auscruise by Autron, and we have been very happy with it. We had it put on here in
Adelaide, and I know that Guests 4 x 4 in
Melbourne fit them (in fact they recommended it to us). We tow a campertrailer which is a bit lighter than a caravan, but we have had no problems in 23,000kms around Australia. We used the cruise control without any problem on bitumen roads, and with some consideration on dirt roads too. Good luck
Happy travels
Anni

I have a 3.0L manual Patrol T/D and I looked into fitting an aftermarket cruise control when I first bought the car. The one that kept on being recommended was the Auscruise by Autron. Those with them sware by them and would not consider any other. The only reason I did not fit it was that they wanted $770 to supply and fit in
Brisbane. There was no discussion on price, it was take it or leave it....so I left it... for the moment anyway.
Cheers,
Patrick

Hows it going Pat
Had this unit fitted to my Patrol earlier this year for $600? I think. Doesnt have magnets though. I cant work out how it works. Maybe an input from the ECU ?? Good unit would recommend one!

I have an "Autron" fitted on Diesel 100 series manual Landcruiser - the greatest thing since mushy peas were invented.
Wouldn't be without it - or the peas!

Gee Tee,
Have "Command Cruise" fitted to 2 x 79 series utes, and a standard 100 series. The utes are nearly 2 year old, and performed without fault. The 100 series isles than 12 months old, but has been okay.
These are mounted on a stalk on column, but function
well, and retain the setting, even after stopping, or switching off ignition. Like them as much as genuine Tojo cruise.
The Autrons seem to get a lot of favourable reports.
Hooroo...

Your Prado has a fly-by-wire (no accelerator cable), so I believe the electronic units made by Autron are your only option.

Thank for the replies. I could not find anything on the AP 50 or Command Cruise. Follow up on the Autron here in
Darwin gave me a $995 price tag.......
I may look further afield as there is only one supplier/agent here. Could be cheaper in
Perth if so will leave it till we go back down the West coast mid year.
