I'm pretty certain the clutches are different. Part number is R282N for the 1979 HJ45 and R386N for the '84 HJ47. They changed early 1981. Don't know what differences.
Cheers
Phil

I am pretty sure the very last of the 40 series, some came out with 5 speeds in them, not sure about clutch, but suspect they would be different

Hi Steve,
The clutches tend to match the motor rather than the gearbox, so all the 2H 6cyl diesel LandCruisers had the same clutch from 1981 to 1988, even though the series changed to the 75series with the 5-speed in early '85.
Only the '81-'84 42series SWB came out with a 5speed box, and this was mated to either the 3B diesel or 2F petrol motors. 47series LWB never had a 5-speed.
Cheers
Phil

I had one of the very last 47's bought new in early 85, was 1/85 compliance, as has been said the 47's never had 5 speed or power steer from factory, not in Oz anyway.
Did think of fitting a 5 speed but sold it after few years and bought s/h 75 series, one of the silliest things I ever did.
The diff ratios will be ok with 5 speed AFAIK they stayed the same in the 75, 4.11 from memory.

Hi Peter, what was so silly with buying a 75 to replace earlier model??
Was it a bomb or a step down from previous one?

The 2H diesel in a 47 and the early 60 series (pre 1985) went much better than the 'same' motor in post 85 vehicles, apparently Toyota fiddled with the pump to meet emission laws o/seas and the later ones were never as good.
The 75 series was very tinny after the 47 and it literally fell apart body wise (A pillars, body mounts, guard cracks, firewall cracks etc etc. Admittedly it did some hard trips (CSR, Anne Beadell, Gunbarrel, Kimberleys, Simpson etc etc) but it was a 'softer ' vehicle. We mainly changed to get a 5 speed and power steering ;-)).
The older trucks were great to modify and fit things to, flat panels and very tough whereas anything since has got progressively more car like and nore orientated to bitumen than off road. Guess that's why I've got the Humvee ;-))
As far as the A/C goes "Bungalow" the 'factory' fitment was an underdash unit under the glovebox which then fed the centre HVAC unit. They came in a kit and I fitted two myself, one in a FJ45 and then another in the 47. I'd go looking at the wreckers and find the necessary bits.
