I am looking for a GPS-map-software for Australia for offline planning and
online support for a GPS device.

There are several postings and internet sites but I am looking for
software similar to MapPoint, Autoroute or Marco Polo for Europe and
America.

Also do a search here on "mapping" or "software".

There is also Oziexplorer software which is a shell viewer for all types of maps. The search will show that up anyway.

Franuda,
go to www.oziexplorer.com
You can download a trial version of their excellent software.
If you need maps the NatMap series available from the shop on this site are useful for travellers.

Franuda,

Other than the Navman devices I am unaware of anyone else making a widely available autorouter for GPS in Australia. There may be something I have missed though as it isn't an area of GPS I'm interested in.

If it's just mapping you want then OziExplorer is the way to go. You have to add maps separately though. You can use commercially available product or scan and calibrate your own paper maps too.

Magellan hope to have a version of DirectRoute for Aus out next year but I won't hold my breath. Their suggested availability dates are usually out by at least two years.

Still waiting for DiscoverAUS update...

i ran into the state magellan rep to my trip to the local 4wd shop today. he informed me that direct route is expected in the next 3 months and he said they arent as detailed as the previous version of discover aus because of size issues with the new audio prompts!

interesting
