G'day All and compliments of the season!
Have the option of purchasing a second hand Long
Ranger 130L fuel
tank for my D/C Hilux and was after some opinions on undertaking such a task.
- what should I look for with the
tank itself
- has anyone experienced issues with second hand tanks
- anything else???
cheers,
Sam.

G'day Sam,
I would think the main thing I would be looking for is the general appearance/condition of the
tank. If it's got some dings or has been welded up etc, I'd be wary. Long
Ranger have a good reputation (unlike Brown Davis) and I have one in the Patrol.
Not much you can check on the inside (but i would be giving it a good flush-out and clean before installing it.
Good luck.

Both brands have nasty stories on them.. I had a BD one that just wouldnt work once I got to less than 1/4
tank, tried 4 different fuel pickups, the works. just wouldnt work.
mate bought it, and had same issue, he flogged it on ebay

G'day Eric,
I had a Brown Davis in my GQ for a few years. I didn't have the same problems as Truckster, but did have dramas with it splitting along the lines where the internal baffles were welded. Had to have it welded up twice......a real pain in the arze.
Long
Ranger in the GU has been excellent....been to the Cape twice and hasn't leaked in 145,000 klicks (touch wood/head)

sam,
had a long
ranger for 7 years in 2 rodeos taken it everywhere collected a couple of minor dents but with a crew cab ramp over clearance, to be expected. stone chips but no rust.
from my own first hand experience i would recommend them. check out the inside for contamination and rust besides that go for it. a lot better than extra cans on the roof.
i know a few with them and no complaints.
regards peter
