I'm having trouble loading maps into my 324. I can get regions onto the SD card but they don't load onto the screen. What is the largest size region the unit will load. I believe it is 4 x 16mg.

Hello - not 100% sure this is the probelm ..but I know FX units dont have the same functionallity as Magellans Meridian GPS units with respect to maps on SD card. I have a feeling you can only have a single map on the SD card (ie not multiple maps or "regions"). Try creating just one region and load that to see what happens. If this is the problem youre having it is a bit of a pain as you then need to either modify the Mapsend.ini file to enable a bigger single region to be created (change Conv_Memory_Size=16384 line to =64000 for example) to get the coverage you require - this can cause lagging and jamming sometimes...or have multiple SD cards with different regions.

Another common problem is incorrect GPS serial number entry ...so make sure youve got that right.

I have an FX324 colour which I just purchased. After many attempts in loading other SD cards I was told only one card per GPS. I had to register the serial number of my GPS and obtain an 'unlock' code for this. This then blocked other SD cards being used. Have you overcome this problem. I have a Meridian and would like to use both, which is impossible with only one card registered. I have all the CD's etc.

Mike - My understanding is that this only applies to BlueNav Maps - when using DiscoverAus Maps you can use any SD card you like - there is no "unlock" code - the map created can however only be used in that particular FX as it is matched to serial number entered during map creation process.

You can load 4 regions of 16 MB onto the FX324
It will combine them into one map file (detail00.img)

You can also put them to an SD card in a card reader/writer

If you write them to the hard disk first then it will create 4 separate files with names of 'regionname'.img

The filename on the SD card needs to be detail00.img and the FX324 does not have an option to switch between different map files like the Meridians

Thanks Burnie
I have done as you said but the FX still won't show the maps on the screen so my question is do the maps have to be no larger than 16mg or will it load a 64mg map/region?

Procomp - the maps can be bigger than 16mb Im sure - I have used single region maps of ~ 25mb. Sounds like you may have a dodgy card or are using wrong serial number.
