Gee... Sd cards have come down in price. Mine came with (I think) a 64 Meg card and we have 3 other SD's for our camera, so we're ok for cards.... but we paid $115 for a 32 meg about 2 years ago from Retravision, so they really have dropped in price. $71 for 256meg sounds great to me! I take it that you have sorted out the other problems you were having?

Hello - more info required - when you say you had difficulty with Mapsend what do you mean? Are you referring to DiscoverAus or older/another "mapsend" product. There are a lot of traps for new players. Did you eventually sort it out or do you still need advice?

With respect to bearings - what do you mean by calibrate bearings? Are you referring to the compass calibration on a Platinum? or bearings to a waypoint?

Without more specific info only generalised/long winded, mostly irrelevant replies can be made.

Cheers
Greg

Hi Ktm,

If it is a platinum version of the meridian you can sometimes experience a reversal of the bearings in when the compass orientation is set to the internal compass magnetic north. This is very sensitive and requires recalibration after new batteries are installed - unless the same rechargeables are being used - or if around metalic or electrical objects ie. in vehicles. For most purposes the Compass Orientation should be set to GPS Course, I only use the internal compass when I'm geocaching.

If it is a Meridian Platinum try the following:

Menu
Select Setup & press Enter
Select Compass Orientation & press Enter
Select GPS Course & press Enter
Then press ESC

This should fix the problem. There is some suggestion that a firmware upgrade will also reduce the occurence of this but I've upgraded my firmware (don't try it unless you are confident you know what you are doing and have information on the hidden menus to help you if it lock's up) and it didn't seem to help.

I do a complete calibration on my compass every so often and a minor calibration more regularly and haven't had the problem much lately.

Let me know if you still have problems.

Dave

PS I also have the DVD on how to use it which is quite helpfull. I'm willing to part with it for $20 plus postage. I no longer need it.

ktm, here are a few links that may help you out now or in the future.

href="https://www.magellangps.com/en/support/software.asp#updates">Magellan GPS Software Updates

Upgrading software (sometimes called firmware) on GPS is sometimes required to use new software/fix bugs - probably not neccessry but nice to have the latest, generally speaking (just so you can get the latest bugs!)

DiscoverAus Patches

Patches are required if you are NOT using Windows XP. A few other patches for other issues you may or may not have as well.

Yahoo Meridian User Group

If you have a problem with Meridian the user group will sort it out in a flash. Good selection of information to be found in the Files section of the group page.

Cheers
