G'day,
I last drove this road about 2 years ago, but I doubt its changed much. Corrugated dirt for 90 % of the way. Rain is the only thing that closes roads out there, and they haven't had any, so it should be open but
check with the shires (Yilgarn/
Southern Cross and Kondinin) first. You can follow it with a country roads directory and a good sense of direction, but having done it that way I wouldn't recommend it - its amazing how remote it is out there. My advice would be to get a 1:100 000 or 1:250 000 topo map of the area and make a set of trip notes with distances between and directions of turnings - you'll have to make a few - so you know where you are (thats what I do now with any new trips). Out there you'll be lucky to have signs with road names, let alone direction signs telling you when to turn.
All this sounds a bit over the top for a road just outside the wheatbelt, but take care not to get lost, and you should enjoy the trip.
Cheers, Alex.
