I am going back up along the Oodnadatta track again shortly, going via Roxby, then turn left....

I wish to spend 2 days camped near the Painted Desert, so I can get 2 mornings & 2 afternoons in.

What are the closest campsites. I will be driving to & fro whilst it is still pitch black, so I don't want to spend too much time driving.

I know there is a NPWS site nearby ( 40 km), and a private station, what else is on offer?

I would prefer to bush camp btw.

Desert Fox.... whoooops.... Deserting Wolf!

Hi Lone Wolf,

There is a camp site at the Painted Desert...refer Hema Map, and I also believe you can camp at or near the homestead south of the Painted Desert.

Cheers

Glenn,

I was under the impression that there was NO camping at the desert.

Where can I see this map on the net.... if at all.

Cheers

As well as the reply below, maybe member message Jiarna (John Wright) as he would know, seeing as he lives closest to it.

Wolfie,

The Painted desert covers quite a large area and there are a few places you can stay. Copper Hills station and Arckaringa homestead have some area and cabins. It is all beutifull but my favorite area in there is the Ackaringa hills part of the desert.
