Does anyone have experience with non genuine air cleaner elements in Nissan 2.8.3.0 turbo diesels - the genuine ones do not last in dusty conditions and let dust through

Fred,
They are too small, the 4.2 has the same. I am told the non genuine ones are worse and not to try a foam one...

I ended up getting a donaldson for the top of the snorkel, when I go on dusty trips I just swap the snout for the donaldson and empty it every day, (it collects a fair bit)

i have a finer filter "vortex" style [part no 534017] in my gu 4.2td, this type has been designed to overcome the limitations of the straight foam type.
i have only cleaned it once in 17,000 km and did not notice any drop in performance...car is only used for weekends away to offroad parks with a bit of competition thrown in.
apparently it is the same filter for the 2.8 and 4.2 td's

I have replace the air filter on my GU 4.2 td with a K&N. It seems to be the only filter that does not inhibit airflow too much. A bit expensive but has a long life and is cleanable.
