I'm sure that this has been thrashed out on this forum, but I can't seem to track it down with the search engine:
I believe there is a replacement kit for rear door seals for the GU to improve dust sealing. In my case (GU series I) an unwanted passenger, in the form of a mouse, has chewed out the rear door seal, and it needs replacing anyway. Thought I'd check to see if there was a better one than that of the Series I. Till now, our seals have never really been a problem, but I know some people have bitched about the dust sealing on the early GUs.
We had this little blighter in the wagon for days before we could get back to civilisation and purchase a mouse trap. Now have to get the stink out of the wagon.
Thanks in advance
Gerry

In all the years I've been camping, I've never had this problem before - out at Thomas River (east of Esperance), the rodents (not talking about PMs) were everywhere, including native rats. Most entertaining with their antics, but we had to keep everything locked up and tents zipped up. Previous trips to this location have generally only revealed one or two native rats. Global warming? ;-)

The only replacement seals that Nissan sell are GUIII ones and they are the duck guts! Theyre thicker and wider than GU I & II and they actually do the job. I had my GUII seal replaced about 12 months ago and coudnt be happier!.

Ahh! Don't think they'll come at a mouse-ravaged rubber under the extended warranty! They'll argue (unjustifiably) that the dust is entering via the large holes/missing bits.

There should be mouse retardent in the rubber, thats NOT your fault but that of the manufacturer. Just called my friendly Nissan man but he'd just turned off his pooter, so no news about cost and parts nos

Gerry,
Cuestan $60 ea depending on which one you need, the series three also has an additional one which I added too.

We had a similar occurrence with bush rats which ate through the engine wiring in one night, the top of the engine was full of rat poo and the vehicle most affected was a Ford Courier diesel (wiring on that must have been tastier on that one than the rest of the vehicles...

I believe it cost a bit to get the wiring fixed up...

The seals are all easy to replace...
Best way to see which ones you need is to check a series three or later GU

Cuestan $60 ea (?) More info?
Just rang Nissan here in Osborne Park WA, they don't know of any upgrade (typical). Only have same part no's for all series. Will ring their main office tomorrow to see if they know any more.
LH seal was $176, RH seal was $121. ouch!

Gerry,
What you do, when they ask you what year/model yours is just tell them it is a series three month/year...
As you say it is typical that they don't know, depends on the moron over the counter....
There are a couple of seals that did not exist in the series 1. Where the roof trim finishes in the series 1, it has a grey mould, that grey mould was later replaced with a mould which contains a seal making the rear door double sealed same as all the other doors.
I paid $60 for mine but it may have gone up, who knows...
I also replaced the left door seal (smaller one and I think I paid $120?? or thereabouts)..

heard once that you can get a heavy duty (safari?) set of seals on the g.u. after i complained about the amount of dust in the car. as my seals are "ok" i did'nt pursue it, but in your case it might be worth it.
can't remember who mentioned them, mates or nissan dealer, but think it was suggested that the patrol can be ordered with heavy duty seals.
