We have purchaced our new 4x4 and it's a silver Landrover Discovery TD5 SII, it was chosen mainly for comfort, economy and that TD5 pulls like a train and of coarse we like it. There are no accessories on it at the moment except for a heavy duty towbar, but that doesn't count cause it's standard on the Landie anyway.
Ford Explorer XL manual UQ 4.0l R.I.P.

Ps you really didn't think i would go mainstream did you.

Well done Baz.
At last someone has gone with their heart not their head......(filled with 4wd mthly).
If you want modern comfort what other choice did you have Baz! Let's see....
Patrol 3.0 - no thks
Patrol 4.2 - no auto? bugger...
LC 100 - IFS, umm.....nup.
Sorry fellas but IMHO all (auto) roads now lead and end at a LR Disco SII.
(umm... that's left me wide open).
Baz, you'll end up loving it... than hating it for a week .... until finally become at peace with the old girl.
Once the underdog has new rubber, susp (and a chip), it will never fail you.
Oh... unless you LIVE in the bush, then I'd buy a Troopie ;-)))
Have a nice day all.
John C
P.S. Up yours Halfwit !

So true yep the girls didn't like the Patrol because it was awkward for the girls to drive, the 100s IFS
well we all know why that would not be concidered, the solid axle 100 was concidered but we found it a bit thirsty and too big for around town albeit a very powerfull unit in fact awesome and thank you mick (Fatz) for letting us drive your 100s, so there ya go.
Oh the chip is on the list too.
Baz.

I am sorry to here the bad news about the Landrover. I guess that not everyone can afford a quality vehicle. Just think you have purchased the following:
Worst resale value of any 4X4 on the market
Quickest depreciation of any car on the market
Ugliest front and rear of any vehicle on the market
Most unreliable electrical system on market
Worst factory support (with the exception of Goggomobile)
Worst amount of available tyre choices of any 4X4
Most amount of chassis and floor pan rust of any 4X4
Most amount of dorky bearded outdoorsy type of owners
Most boring and unproductive club members of any known 4X4 clubs in Australia
Most expensive vehicle top maintain
50 year old British styling
On the positive side:
Best under bonnet rust prevention of any 4X4 (oil leaks)

Again Baz good on you, hope you have as much fun in this 4by as you did your last.
As for floyd, try something new, and go four wheel driving

Congratulations Baz,
I must say having driven it last weekend I was impressed with the condition of it and the way it drove. It had been well looked after bye the previous owners and not driven offroad despite close relationship with a guy from the Friends of the Simpson. Good family connections you may say.
I am sure the value you will get will be tremendous, and we look froward to seeing you in the drivers seat. I reckon the economy you will drive you further too with the 2.5 Turbo.
Congratulations again mate and I am sure there are many kilometers to go, providing you don't drown it before teaching it to breath with a
snorkel.
I know I have come in late with this but you had not gone to press when I was here earlier. At least I have had the priveledge of knowing longer than others ;-)

Yes John a special thanks to you John for your help and knowing the previous owners well thats just amazing family connection indeed, finding out a little more about the car and knowing that it was well looked after is brilliant.
Taking one for a test with our camper attached was the clincher no effort at all amazing for a small diesel, it towed it as well as Micks turbo 100s LC.
LMAO, i will teach it well trust me, thank you again John.
Baz.

G'day Baz, well done on your purchase. I am myself a new owner, having picked up my own TD5 on Saturday. Sounds like I did the reverse to you... I am from Melb and bought mine in
Sydney.
Yours being 2001 should be able to run the Centre Diff Lock. 2002 models have a different transfer case with no provision to engage the CDL.
I got mine for an absolute bargain with low kms, service books, bullbar and
snorkel, enough to go and get quite dirty. Good luck with yours.
Chris

Well done Baz,
In the three years i have had mine it's been great.Drives beautifully on road and off and very capable in standard form.Great motor for a balance of power and economy and if you do a lot of towing rechipping the motor makes a huge difference but i tow my van no worries.Found OME
suspension to be one of the best improvements to the ride after the weight of a steel bull bar went on the front. You will love the comfort of the disco especially when touring.Parts and
servicing are pricey if you go to the big dealers but you will find
places around that are more competitive.Don"t worry about the knockers who claim their car to be the best coz your motor won"t blow, your fifth gear won't fall off and your transfer case won't fill with sand.
cheers mark
