Well I have taken delivery of my new Bravo 2.5 TD and have run it in etc to the 3,000 km mark. It's a beaut bit of gear!!!
Miles are coming quickly and so is the first service / oil change. Mazda says that the initial fill is "runnning in" oil and must be left in 10,000 kms (was going to drop it at 5K)
Now after searching the DB my question is what oil to use?? I used Penrite in all my cars 'till I drove HSV's (used
Mobil 1) and am considering using the HPR Diesel 5 as recomended by Penrite as the HPR Diesel 15 is outside the manufacturers spec.
Truck is used for daily work use and tows a Jayco camper (1060kgs) on weekends.
Recomendations or thoughts on HPR Diesel 5 or alternatives please guys???

While the vehicle is under warranty wouldnt u be getting Mazda to do the
services???
If you are determined to do it yourself then i would consult the handbook that should have come with the car........it would certainly tell you what oils to use. I wouldnt go outside the manufacturers recomendations or u may find it affects ur warranty.
Its not a good idea to mess with the viscosity of oils........they are reccomended for a reason.

Mazda will be doing the
services under the warranty "book" setup.
Not to confident on dealers "lowest common denominator" choice on oil, hence the question. I will supply the oil as I have done for all my cars over the years.
I have been advised that 5,000km's would be a better interval period for the diesel too.....(used to do 5K changes with the HSV's even with
Mobil 1.)
Just wondering what peoples opinions are?

Caltex Delo 400. I get it in 20l drums at about $70 which is great value for a top of the line CI rated oil. Also meets the JASO requirements for my patrol TD which was more critical to the 'Warranty'. Looked at Penrite but could not justify the added costs at $100 plus per 20l drum.

Hi,
I have a 2000 bravo TD and use
Caltex Delo 500 which more than meets the manufacturers specs. I change oil and filter at 6 months, or 5000km as per service schedule. Delo 400 is a higher spec oil than Delo 500. Both are good value.

Phil,
Id like to know where you get a good price for Delo 400. The best I can get in
Brisbane is $85 from SEQ fuels who are the distributors of
Caltex products in
Brisbane. Thats a cash price walk in off the street.
Cheers,
Glenn.

Caltex Depot in Nowra has Delo 400 @$72 for 20l drums. Recently gone up was $68 when I got my first drum about 6 months ago. I buy several drums at atime to hedge my bets on oil price rises!

I did not buy the Delo 400, only the 500 which was $68 last year from the Armidale NSW
Caltex depot. $70 for the Delo 400 is certainly good value.
