I just noticed one of this units for sale on australian ebay. Are this units legal in WA.
May be a good investment for the long run.

Cruise control may be a better investment. If you don't speed, you don't get pinged (usually).

Cheers

John, that may be right in South Aussie but in Victoria where we have a 3% tolerance of the actual and speed cameras that are often proven not to be accurate, you can and do get pinged under the limit.

$10k fine potential for a radar reciever too.

You do know now which state is out to raise revenue don't you? Just ask Muddy of his trip to the Grampians last year.

According to a family member who is in the know, radar detectors are not legal to use in WA but it is not illegal to buy them.

Radar detectors are legal in WA, legal to use but not to import. Police don't like em but thats tough for them, I have been pulled over for other things and been given the speech that I should drive by my speedo not radar detector once they see it on my windscreen. I have been running my Valentine 1 for 5 years now, best I have had by a country mile over many years and 3 different brands. Don't know much about the new Cobra but my old one was useless, even my uniden was better

G'day Goran
I've just been reading the 2004 -2005 tourist park guide and on page 22 under helpful guide to towing it states that radar detectors are illegal to use in all states and territories of Australia.
Safe travells

Jim-Bob you are correct under the National Road Rules - HOWEVER, not all states follow the National Road Rules.
The second rate everything state N.S.W. police do not even know the proper road rules, let alone the National Road Rules.

As far as I am aware they are legal in only W.A and the Northern Territory. They are quite easily obatained in most electrical stores here in W.A. and very commonly seen on cars, 4by's etc.

I had a very excited copper in the ACT a few months ago. He thought the Smartire control unit was a radar detector.

A mate of mine install sat tv for auststar and he has this box thingy that tells him the signal strength for the different freq's so he can set up the sat. dishes. He tells me that he can tune it into the frq's the cops use on the radars and lasers and sets the alarm on it, so the alarm goes off when ever it detects those freq's. An instant legal radar detector. However he did say that the laser alarm only sometimes goes off before it the laser is pointed at him.
But also something else on my mind is that people get charged now for pointing lasers at people's faces. Last week on the news the cops were going ape over someone pointing a laser into planes cockpits as they come into land, VERY stupid thing to do, so how can the cops get away with pointing a laser towards peoples faces when they are driving?
