Dennis - the short answer here is don't do it! It is difficult enough on most tracks with and off road CT - not to mentions the sh+#s you give everyone else who has to back up or down hills for you. Set up in Licola or other such place and day trip the tracks.

Dennis if the tracks are main forrest (ie) Eildon to Jamison it's OK but not the smaller ones we have an off road CT and would think twice with it, do as above have a base and do day trips.

Good choice of tow mule by the way !!

Baz.

You could camp safely around Dargo, Crooked River, talbotville on the main road in or sheepyards flat on the Howqua but don't try going on any of the steep ridge tracks.

Beveriges Station is a good spot also if you want to get away from it all. 40kms up from Porpunkah along the Buckland river Rd. Just watch out for the odd log truck that use the road. Have regularly driven car and caravan to this point so its easy, remote and probably all yours to have. Cheers

If you are looking at the Mt Stirling area just park the van at Mirimbah or Sheepyard flat and drive tour from their. Lake Cobbler is another good place to park it but drive in from Whittfield only. do not go via the King river or starcase with a van. Lake William Hovel out of Mansfield is tops for a base camp and swimming. take a canoe or kayak and you will have a ball.

Theres a track up from King River the other side of Cobbler to the staircase that a CT could take easily.

What type & size Van do you tow? There are stacks of tracks suitable for them but need the basic imfo before recomending. It's just that some are more capable than others & some drivers don't mind the occational scratch. The high country lends itself to base camping with vans not touring as alot of the good spots have pretty rough access.
