Hi all, I saw a post from here that was dated a couple of years ago about an idler bearing (not idler arm bearing) in the v6 engine that costs $1200 to replace. And the bearing can not be bought anywhere else. You can get something a little similar but not the same.
Well it happened to me too.
I was not interested in paying Toyota $1200 for a part that wa going to take 6-9 weeks to arrive.
I went to my friendly engineering works and spoke to a guy about the problem and after 30 minutes we nutted it out. We knew we could replace the bearing that could only be sourced from toyota. Figured a way of reusing the idler bearing housing but we had to reverse engineer the rest. Easy.
Grand Total $120. About $20 for bearings and the rest was his time.
Email me at jasonwooler@hotmail.com and I will do what i can to help. At least I can give you the details on how to do it etc. The rest will depend on your own skills.
